Turmeric is a very important spice in India and finds extensive use in Indian cuisine. Besides food flavouring, Turmeric is a powerful medicine that has long been used in the Chinese and Indian systems of medicine as an anti-inflammatory agent to treat a wide variety of conditions. Turmeric is believed to ward off Alzheimer disease, prevent cancer, reduce the risk of heart attacks, combat inflammatory diseases and fight cold and flus.

With 43% share, the Erode district is the top turmeric producer in Tamil Nadu. Erode is also known as Turmeric city as it is an important market center for turmeric. Due to some reason turmeric farmers are not able to get the reasonable price for turmeric cultivation. One of the methods to stabilize the price is by controlling cost of Cultivation through which profit can be increased.

With this above background, CII Tamil Nadu State Council jointly with Ulavan Producer Company Limited organized a Session on “Frugal Production Techniques in Turmeric” on 20th September 2016, Erode at free of cost for farmers.
