Karnataka ICT Summit 2017
New Business Models and the Art of What's Possible
The Summit with the theme “New Business Models and the Art of What's Possible” focused on the impact of digitization. As the theme suggested, the speakers and panelists coherently emphasized the need for an ecosystem. The future belongs to data, which will be next natural resource. In such time and space coordinates, everything will revolve around the consumer. The daylong event witnessed discussions and deliberations envisaging such a customer centric world.
The day started with an inaugural address by Dr Kiran Kumar, Chairman of ISRO. Stating that digital transformation is no longer an option for organizations, Dr. Kiran stressed on the imperative – and the management -- of technological change. Playing a pivotal role in shaping the future is ISRO. The Science organization developed Bhuvan Geoportal, a unique system providing high-resolution remote sensing data for visualization and thematic layer overlays of Indian region along with a host of services for g-governance and citizen centric activities.
Resonating with the theme, Mr. Gangadhar Krishnamoorthy, Director, Digital Consulting KPMG, said the evolution of ICT has led to the free availability of information. The challenge is to use it constructively. With the new wave of ICT coming in, it may be necessary to have an organization/ industry body that can create standards in terms of infrastructure, protocol and data handling and mitigate the issues related to data security, data flexibility and information models.
Adding to the discussion, Mr. M Lakshmi Narayan, Advisory Chairman Harman International (India) Ltd., said that we need to have the capacity to analyze the huge volumes of data that the digital revolution has been spinning out. The focus of ICT in manufacturing should not be on how to reduce manpower but on how to improve quality for the end user. We need to use the power of ICT to see how we can create jobs, as this is what is going to drive the economy.
Mr. V C Gopalratnam, Chairman, CII ICT Summit, provided the wide base for CII Karnataka ICT Summit 2017. Making all the presentations without a powerpoint, Gopal dexterously pulled off an irony. Moderating panel discussion, Gopal stressed on the importance of school and university education. The audience left the summit with the following points to ponder: how do we build an ecosystem that connects all the touchpoints (both digital and non-digital), and what is the best way to monetize productions and services that would revolve around the consumer.
