Second Edition of TECH EXPO 2017
CII Madurai Zone organised its second edition of the CII Tech Expo started on 9 – 10th February 2017 with the theme Connected to Create: Endless Opportunities

CII Madurai Zone organised its second edition of the CII Tech Expo started on 9 – 10th February 2017 with the theme Connected to Create: Endless Opportunities. Mr M Anbukani, Chairman, CII Madurai Zone welcoming the delegates at the inaugural session of the event spoke about the genesis of this event; its objective and its relevance to the Madurai District. He said it is important to showcase capabilities of technological organisations from both global and domestic to the industries and institutions in Madurai and, through this, to create collaborative and investment opportunities into the Southern District of Tamil Nadu. The Southern Districts of Tamil Nadu has abundant natural and human resources and these resources need to be tapped effectively to the growth of economic and industrial development in this region.

Mr T Kannan, Past Chairman, CII Southern Region and Chairman & Managing Director, Thiagarajar Mills Ltd delivered the keynote address. He said in the era of rapid technological development, the skill sets required for students are changing and the educational institutions need to adopt those changes to infuse the needed skill sets to the students; otherwise, there may be challenges in job creation and we have rely more on the traditional manufacturing sector for employment generation. The Make in India programme of Government of India has opened up lot of opportunities for manufacturing sector and also opportunities for creating non-migratory jobs. He called for all the educational institutions to adopt a compulsory industry internship for students so that they gain the experience of practical capabilities and the industry working environment. He congratulated CII for organising this TechExpo and he believes that this kind of initiatives would be immensely beneficial to both industries and educational institutions in and around Madurai.

Mr Aravind Mathur, Director, Honeywell Aero Space Marketing and Product Management, in his address spoke about how technological interventions are changing the world and also the way we do our business. He touched upon various smart technological applications which would have an positive impact on the lives of people around the world and across all the sectors of industry.
Dr P V Venkitakrishnan, Director of ISRO Propulsion Complex spoke about ISRO’s achievement in the Space sector and its increasing technological capabilities in building satellites. He said recently ISRO has successfully tested its indigenously made cryogenic engine. ISRO has been working very closely with its industry partners in developing and launching satellites. He said 15th February 2017 would be a memorable day for ISRO as they would be launching 105 satellites. While we need global investments and organisations from abroad to look at India as their favourable business destination; it is important for Indian companies also to go global and create more Indian brands.

Setting context for the second edition of TechExpo, Mr Nagaraj Krishnan , Event Chairman, of CII TechExpo 2017 said this event was a perfect platform to interface with industrious investors, emerging/established entrepreneurs, commendable corporate leaders reputed researchers, significant scientists, sedulous students and top-notch technocrats towards showcasing appropriate technical advancements and collectively exploring investment prospects, collaborative business ventures and viable employment generation options for the overall development of this region
Speaking at the session on Smart City Development, Mr Kamal Arora, Sales Director of Honeywell Building Solutions said that the world major technology solution providers like Honeywell; CISCO and IBM are well positioned with the broadest technology solutions portfolio to support building India’s 100 smart cities. Honeywell has already carried out successfully city surveillance projects in Bhubaneswar; Aurangabad and Ujjain. They are delighted to share their experience and understanding of the subject at a forum like Tech Expo.

The two-day Tech Expo has some very interesting sessions like Smart City Development: Technology Solutions; Digital India; Cyber Security; Cloud Computing; Artificial Intelligence; Internet of Things. An important facet of this Tech Expo is the Students Paper presentation on “Innovate Ideas”, where three best ideas were awarded Cash Prizes.
The inaugural session was attended by more than 600 delegates from industry and academia.
