CII National Quality Circle Competition
Over 300 workers from 31 Quality Circle teams participated in the National Final

New Delhi:
‘TRISHUL’ Quality Circle Team from Sundaram-Clayton Limited, Hosur, Karnataka was adjudged the winner at the 30th CII Quality Circle Competition National Final for 2017-2018, organized by Confederation of Indian Industry at New Delhi.

The first Runner up Trophy was won by 'PARIVARTAN' Quality Circle team from SAIL-RSP, Rourkela, Odisha while 'PRAYATNA' Quality Circle team from Vardhman Yarns Limited, Sultanpur, Madhya Pradesh and 'LAGAN' Quality Circle team from Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Gurugram were adjudged the second runner-up.

Four Quality Circle teams, namely SUDHAR (Honda Cars India Limited, Greater Noida), SRIJAN (SRF Limited, MP), NAVIKARAN (Jindal Coke Limited, Odisha), FLUID POWER (Tata Steel Limited, Jamshedpur) were given the Consolation prizes.

The Best Presentation Award was won by POWER GRINDER Quality Circle team from BOSCH Limited (Power Tools), Chennai; Team UMANG from Mahindra & Mahindra, Mohali won the prize for Best Problem Identification & Analysis; Prize for Holding the Gains was bagged by team SAMARPAN (JSW Steel Limited, Maharashtra) and the Prize for Using Advanced QC Tools was won by team SRISHTI (Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Limited, Mohali).

Over 300 workers from 31 Quality Circle teams participated in the Competition. The assessment of the presentation was made on a weighted scale covering different aspects of the Quality Circle activity. The evaluation was based on factors like problem selection, analysis, solution, presentation, etc.

The Panel of judges included Mr C V Rao, Former Senior Counsellor, Institute for Quality, Gurugram; Dr Alka Kaul, Director, Horizon Industrial Products Limited and Mr Rajiv Juneja, Director, RBMSS.

Chief Guest, Mr Vijay Kumar, Director, MSME-DI, Ministry of MSME, Government of India gave away the trophies to the winners and spoke about the need to make maximum utilization of natural resources for sustainable development. “We must ensure implementing ‘Zero effect Zero Defect’ to enable the advancement of Indian industry in the global market through production of products that have no defect and again have no negative effect on environment,” he added.

Delivering the Welcome Remarks, Dr Sudhir Kapur, Chairman, Regional Committee on Skills, CII Northern Region, said, "Quality circles, foster a spirit of teamwork and cooperation and bring about a sea change in the attitudes of people. An empowered and motivated team increases effectiveness and efficiency of any enterprise.

Dr Alka Kaul, Director, Horizon Industrial Products Limited, mentioned that the Quality Circle Competition is a celebration of creativity, and recognition of talent and teamwork. It symbolizes the innovations and capabilities of workers and is a representation of a positive employee-employer relationship
