IRIS, a joint initiative of CII-DST-Intel, aims at promoting inventions and innovations among students and youth of India. It also provides a platform for the youth to interact with Indian industry and to showcase their innovations at international level. Every year there is a call for innovative projects from students in various age groups. These projects are screened by a Scientific Review Committee to select the top 10 projects, which are displayed at the IRIS National Fair that occurs in December every year.
IRIS program has successfully completed its 3rd year of completion in 2008. In 2008 totally 172 workshops were conducted all over India and almost 865 students sent in their entries for participation in IRIS. The IRIS National Fair 2008 was held in Kolkata Science City in December 2008.. At IRIS 2008, 107 projects were selected out of which 12 projects received the special prizes, 8 projects were given the best subject category awards and 8 projects were the national fair winners. 6 projects have been selected from IRIS winners to represent India at Intel Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) in USA, which will be held from May 10-15, 2009. So far, IRIS has focused on school students.
