Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has been working towards building a culture of innovation in Indian industry. It is our belief that the only way for Indian industry to have sustainable and inclusive growth is to innovate. With this belief we have taken a number of initiatives in the area of innovation.

To make a successful plan and roadmap for action in the area of innovation we also need to align the measurement gauge with similar benchmark practices adopted globally. With this backdrop, CII is developing jointly with INSEAD a Global Innovation Index.

INSEAD has prepared the Global Innovation Index in 2007 that has ranked various countries with respect to the innovation on various parameters like ‘Institution and Policy, ‘Human Capacity’, ‘Infrastructure’, ‘Technological Sophistication’ and ‘Business Markets and Capital’.

Global Innovation Index 2008 was released in a media event by Prof. Soumitra Dutta, INSEAD, who has developed the methodology and is leading this study.

For the year 2009, the CII is working jointly with INSEAD to develop the Global Innovation Index. The Global Innovation Index 2009 would rank more than 150 countries. The parameters and variables have also been reviewed and modified for the current year.
