6th Environment Summit 2015

“Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”, said Prof H S Dhami, Vice Chancellor, KumaunUniversity, Nainital, while speaking as Chief Guest at the 6th Environment Summit organized byConfederation of Indian Industry & Uttarakhand Council for Science & Technology, at Rudrapur. He also expressed that industries should Think Global & Act Local and utilize locally available strengths & capabilities as a step towards sustainability.
 
While delivering the opening remarks, Mr Prashant Mahadik, Chairman CII Uttarakhand State council, stressed on balancing environment & economic growth in the state. He shared that manufacturing industryneeds to match pace with today’s globalised and highly competitive word by inventing and innovating new processes & deploying latest technology.
 
Mr Alok Kumar Singh, Chairman, 6th Environment Summit 2015, CII Kumaon Zone & Plant Head TataMotors Ltd, Pantnagar expressed that it is important today for any manufacturing industry to meet the needsof humanity without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. He also said sustainable manufacturing efforts are viewed as incomplete unless they address concerns in three core dimensions i.e economic, environmental & social. He mentioned that sustainable business is resourceefficient, respects the environment & is a good neighbor.
 
The day long deliberations dwelled upon issues & challenges relating to the environment, sharing of bestpractices that can be adopted by industries; various advance technologies & zero defects zero effect approach to make industries more competitive and sustainable in the long run.

The first session focused on Best Practices in Implementing Green Manufacturing and was moderated by MrSuresh Redhu, Vice Chairman CII Uttarakhand State Council. The speakers at the session includedrepresentatives from TATA Motors Ltd, Pantnagar & Bajaj Auto Ltd, & Denso India Ltd and shared their bestpractices for sustainable manufacturing.
 
The second session dwelled upon Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and was moderated by Mr M PSingh, Plant Head, Delphi - TVS Diesel Systems Ltd. The speakers at the session included representativesfrom Yaskawa India Pvt. Ltd, FANUC India Pvt Ltd & Dassault Systems and shared various advancedtechnologies for manufacturing industry which could enable them to become much stronger and more competitive over long run.
 
Keeping consensus with Hon’ble PM’s idea of Zero Defect Zero Effect Manufacturing” Mr M M Singh, CoChairman, Special Task Force on Manufacturing and Make in India CII NR and Executive Advisor,Maruti Suzuki India ltd shared that “To make a mark in global manufacturing industry, we need to setglobal standards and follow the PM Modi’s idea of zero defect zero effect. Our manufacturing should havezero defects so that our products should not be rejected in the global market. Besides, we should also keepin mind that manufacturing should not have any negative impact on our environment”. “There is great needto anchor investments to promote ancillarisation, as it minimizes the set up cost and helps in grooming entrepreneurial skills”, he added.
 
The Summit was well attended by over 70 delegates from Industry. The Summit was addressed by 11 experts.
