International Day of People with Disability

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations sanctioned day that aims to promote an understanding of  people with disability and encourage support for their dignity, rights and well being. The day also seeks to increase awareness of the benefits of the integration of people with disability in every aspect of  political, social, economic and cultural life. 

IDPwD brings together individuals, businesses, community organizations, and governments from every corner of the world to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions, skills and achievements of  people with disability.

In 1992, at the conclusion of the United Nations Decade of Disabled Persons (1983-1992), the General Assembly proclaimed 3 December as the International Day of Disabled Persons.

Each year the UN announces a theme for  the day that is based on the goal of full and equal enjoyment of human rights, and participation in society by people with disability. The theme for 2012 is “Removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for all” .

In order to commemorate the day in accordance with the theme, CII Bihar State Council,  organized a “Session on International Day of People with Disability” at 1000 hrs on 3 December 2012 at Government Blind High School, Near Bihar Ayurvedic College, Kadamkuan, Patna.

The session was addressed by Mr Alouk Kumar, Member, CII Bihar State Council, Mrs Usha Jha, Member, Bihar State Council, Mr Khagendra Paswan, Principal, Govt Blind High School, Kadamkuan, and Mr Suman Kumar, Secretary General, Disabled Sports and Welfare Academy. At the end of the session Pedestial fans were donated to the school and food packets were distributed to the blind children.
