Accelerating growth through conscious competitiveness is the agenda of CII-SR in 2013-14

CII Southern Region would focus on the theme -  “Accelerating Growth - Conscious Competitiveness” for the year 2013-14 said,    Mr B Santhanam, Chairman, CII – Southern Region while addressing his maiden Press Conference in Chennai on 2 May 2013.

Mr Santhanam said that CII-Southern Region’s agenda is to address infrastructure inadequacy, Bridge the skill gap, Create a system for transparent governance, Develop competitiveness and Ensure inclusive growth.

Unveiling the plan of CII – Southern Region for the current year,  Mr B Santhanam said that the key focus areas would include; Competitiveness addressing Manufacturing, MSMEs, Sustainability and Human Resources; Infrastructure addressing connectivity, Power & Energy and Urban Infrastructure; Inclusion through Diversity, Skills & Affirmative Action; and Social Responsibility through CSR Advisory Services and CSR Exchange.

In the area of Competitiveness, CII would lay special emphasis for development of MSMEs. Towards this, CII proposes Technology Development Centres for Robotics/Automation and Additive Manufacturing in 2 Cities of South India. In order to increase the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector,  CII – Southern Region would actively engage with the State Level Manufacturing Competitiveness Councils.

Infrastructure development is key to driving economic growth.  Towards this, CII would promote Industrial Corridors in Southern Region such as the Chennai – Bangalore Industrial Corridor and the Bangalore – Mysore Corridor.  Apart from this, CII has also identified few other key projects like Kakinada Rail Corridor in Andhra Pradesh; Revival of airport operations in Mysore Zone; North Karnataka Connectivity in Karnataka; High Speed Rail Corridor & Solid Waste Management System for all cities in Kerala and Ennore Port Connectivity and Outer Ring Road for Tamil Nadu.

CII proposes to conduct a study on roadmap for creation of Southern Gas Grid, which would help in addressing the growing energy requirement of  industries in the region.

To accelerate Inclusive Growth, CII would focus on Diversity, Affirmative Action and Skill Development initiatives and work closely with the Skill Missions in Southern States.  In Diversity the focus is to create networking platform for women professionals. Towards this CII will actively promote the CII Indian Women  Network (IWN).

To enhance growth through Social Responsibility, CII would facilitate setting up of a    ‘CII CSR Exchange’ through pool of projects across identified verticals, such as, Education, Healthcare, Women and Child Development, Infrastructure, Innovation and Affirmative Action.

CII Southern Region has also made its effort to promote art, culture and tourism through its unique initiative called ‘The Festival of South India’.  The first edition of the event will be held in Hyderabad this year with the support of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Southern State Governments.
