Conference on Demand - Responsive Vocational Training

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in partnership with the Ministry of Labour & Employment, is organizing the ‘Conference on Demand - Responsive Vocational Training’ on August 8, 2014 at Hotel Taj Mansingh, New Delhi.

This one-day National Conference assumes great significance in light of the recent landmark decisions by the Directorate General of Employment and Training (DGE&T) such as linking Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) with cluster industries, Mentor Councils, Flexi MoUs and incubation centres in IITs for ITI learners and conversion of Employment Exchanges to Career Centres.

Ms Gauri Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Labour & Employment, Government of India, will chair the Conference while key Government speakers will include Mr Ajay Shankar, Member Secretary, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, Mr Mohan Pyare, Principal Secretary – L & E, Govt. of Tamil Nadu and Mr Alok Kumar, Director General-Employment & Training and. Key industry speakers will include Mr N S Rajan, Group Chief Human Resource Officer, Tata Sons; Mr Joy Bandekar, President, Flipkart India Pvt Ltd; Mr A G Shroff, Managing Director, Transpek Industry Ltd and various IMC Chairmen, among others. Additionally, there will be active participation from major States such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Delhi, U.P., Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Discussions at the Conference will centre on developing a cluster-based approach leading to greater industry engagement with ITIs and Career Centres with the aim of revamping the existing ITIs and creating a work-ready talent pool.  To begin with, three industry clusters - the Automotive Cluster in Delhi NCR; Chemical Cluster in Gujarat and Engineering Cluster in Tamil Nadu - will be the focus clusters with Industry, States, ITIs and Career Centres deliberating on the way forward.  Apart from the discussions, a MoU exchange between DGE&T with Tata Sons, Flipkart and Raymond’s will also take place at the Conference.

The National Conference is an excellent opportunity for all stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the new and innovative vocational training policies and practices of the Government of India.
