Government focus on Digital India will help growth of Indian Industry says Sanjeev Varma, CEO, Steria India

Mr Sanjeev Varma, CEO, Steria India Ltd today while addressing the gathering at the Inaugural Session of CII UP IT Summit organized today in Noida, expressed his view that the Central government’s focus on Digital India will help Industry to grow with more companies, especially the MSMEs sector utilizing IT tools. He also saw a great opportunity in Small enterprises segment for IT service providers since these companies are too moving towards “Software as Service” models.  Highlighting the humongous growth in use of IT enabled applications/devices he stressed on the need to customize the services as per SMEs since they were going to be next area of growth. 

Earlier, Mr Prateek Garg, Chairman, Western UP Zonal Council and Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Progressive Infotech Pvt Ltd said that IT could be great force multiplier for MSMEs.  Mr Garg highlighted that the advancements in technology resulting in lowering of costs of applications, hardware, IT infrastructure, newer outsourcing models meant that the IT tool as competitiveness enabler is much more affordable for smaller companies, who could not afford IT applications due to scale.  He also said that the lower costs have also opened newer avenues for smaller companies.  

The objective of the CII UP IT Summit was to highlight how IT had become Affordable, Efficient and Simplified. 

Mr Ashwini K Aggarwal, Director, Applied Materials India Pvt Ltd, highlighted the “Seven Sins of IT” which brought to the fore the “myths” when it came to using IT.  Still the IT was seen as to be used for some activities such as Accounts, ERP etc only.  The further connectivity and its usages were still not appreciated or understood.  

Later in the day, Mr Aayan Banerjee, Head – Inside Sales, Microsoft India Pvt Ltd showcased the saving of time and money with companies moving onto “Cloud” technology.  The other speakers in the session Mr Anirban Mandal, a senior IT expert and Mr Gulshan Kharbanda, Chief Technology Officer, Progressive Infotech Pvt Ltd.  The session brought to fore the need and savings involved if the companies moved to Cloud technologies.  The session also saw a large number of queries with participants engaging with speakers on issues of safety, costings, security etc. 

The remaining sessions focussed on the Internet of Things which spoke of the next generation revolution of IT which will see massive jump in internet connectivity and usage with an estimated 30 billion IT enabled devices in next 6 years. 

The final session on the day shared the success story of “Managing IT” model with IT management being outsourced to specialist companies.
