Delhi MSME Summit and Vendor Development Programme

Confederation of Indian Industry in association with MSME Development Institute, New Delhi, Ministry of MSME, Government of India organized the Delhi MSME Summit at New Delhi.

The Session was a special platform put together by CII and MSME-DI, New Delhi to promote MSME sector and to discuss and deliberate on challenges faced by them. A Vendor Development Programme was also organized coinciding with the Summit. In all, 10 Public Sector Enterprises participated in the Vendor Development. Senior officials from PSEs spoke at length about their procurement and vendor development policies and schemes.

Mr Amit Yadav, Commissioner and Secretary Industries and Chairman and Managing Director, DSIIDC, Government of NCT of Delhi while delivering an address at the inaugural session said that MSMEs are the backbone of any economy. MSMEs in India can no longer be only seen as ancillary units for larger corporations. 

To encourage the growth of MSME, Mr Yadav mentioned about the policies like Ease of Doing Business that are being adopted and implemented by the Delhi Government.

He also said that within the next 3-4 months, various policies will be implemented in Delhi that will ease of doing business in Delhi by reducing the number of permits and licenses required to run a business in the city. He also urged the industry members to use the MSME Facilitation Center set up by the Delhi Government for any redressal or compliance issues.

Mr S Sahu, Additional Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, Government of India spoke that development of MSMEs sector is one of the key focus areas of the Central Government. He said that through newly established Skill Center, a revised MSME Policy is being drafted. He urged the industry to share their suggestions with the Ministry.

Mr S K Arya, Chairman and Managing Director, JBM India P Ltd also addressed at the Summit. He said that along with bring the most important contributor to employment generation, MSME is also the most dynamic and vibrant sector of any economy. He also said that MSMEs are also hit the hardest in times of depression. With increased focus on R & D, partnerships between vendor and buyers, MSME sector can reach greater heights.

Dr Alka Kaul, Vice Chair, CII Delhi State Council and Director-HR and Quality, Horizon Industrial Products P Ltd mentioned about various initiatives taken by CII for development of MSME industry all across the country. She also urged the industry belonging to the sector to learn from the best practices of each other and other global corporations.

In a special session on Global Partnerships for SME, participants learned from the best practices and policies followed by Governments of Hong Kong, Japan, Hungary and Canada. The Summit also saw discussions around how access to finance can be improved for MSMEs. Various banking and non-banking financial corporations like SIDBI, Punjab National Bank, Syndicate Bank and DHFL participated in the Summit.

Other eminent speakers at the Summit were Mr Suresh Yadavendra, Director, MSME DI, New Delhi;  Mr Jasbir Singh, Zonal General Manager, NSIC; Mr Sunny Chau, Regional Manager-Southeast Asia and India, Hong Kong Trade Development Council; Mr Nadira Hamid, CEO, Indo-Canadian Business Chamber; Mr Pakodzy Zsolt, Economic and Commercial Counselor, Embassy of Hungary, Ms Rachna Dikshit, General Manager, RBI; Mr S S Bhatia, General Manager, PNB; Mr S K Thakkar, General Manager, Syndicate Bank; Mr Vikas Goel, Head Alliance Business, TATA Teleservices; Mr Vishal Chadha, Vice President, Snapdeal; Mr Gagan Sabharwal, Director, NASSCOM.

PSEs who participated at the Vendor Development Programme were Central Electronics Limited; Engineers India Limited; Gas Authority of India Limited; Oil India Limited; Oil and Natural Gas Corporation; Telecommunications India Limited; EdCIL Ltd.
