Sweden and India are partners in many fields: Swedish Prime Minister
Feb 13, 2016

Sweden and India are partners in many fields such as sustainable cities education and health. This was stated by H E Mr. Stefan Löfven, Prime Minister of Sweden. The Swedish Prime Minister was addressing the Sweden Country Seminar at the Make in India Week in Mumbai today. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is the partner of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) and the Government of Maharashtra in organizing the mega event to be held from 13th -18th February 2016 in Mumbai.

According to the Prime Minister, there are about 160 Swedish companies operating in India providing direct employment to 160,000 people and indirect employment to over 1 million people. He pointed out that the business ties between the two countries go back many decades and that Sweden’s interest in India was definitely a long term one.

He pointed out that it was in this backdrop that such a large business delegation was accompanying him on this visit.

According to Ms. Ylva Berg, President and CEO, Business Sweden, the Swedish and Indian economies complement each other. As India works on reforming its manufacturing sector, Sweden can offer its expertise as a knowledge based economy. She stated that there was a need for the two countries to step up investment in each other’s economies and connect to Global Value Chains. This, in her view, would be mutually beneficial for both economies.

A panel discussion on Sweden Makes in India followed which featured speakers from leading Swedish companies such as ABB India, Scania, Volvo, Vinnova highlighting their experience in manufacturing in India.
