CII Delhi State today organized its Annual Session and a Business Conference with the theme ‘Build Delhi – Powering for Future’. Mr Manish Sisodia was the Chief Guest at the inaugural session of the conference.

Coinciding with the inaugural session of the Conference, CII and CII Foundation also handed over one girls toilet block constructed in the Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Dayalpur, North Delhi as part of CII’s Mission-Sanitation in Schools in Delhi. More such toilet blocks are being constructed.

CII and Fever 104 also launched a Show on Leadership called ‘CII and Fever 104 Corporate Mantra’ where Delhi’s top business leaders would come and answer queries of young professionals.

Mr Manish Sisodia,Deputy Chief Minister, Government of NCT of Delhi inaugurated the Business Conference. He congratulated CII Delhi State Council on organizing its Annual Session and for choosing a topical theme like Build Delhi – Powering for Future.  In his inaugural address, Mr Sisodia laid importance on Skill Development. He also said that Delhi as a state is lacking in the sector of Skill Development.    

He emphasized on promoting Delhi as the ‘Knowledge Hub of India’ by just not increasing the number of colleges and educational institutes in the state but by accumulating knowledge base resources in the state that can further only contribute to the economy. 

Mr Sisodia encouraged the residents of the city to think ‘Out of the Box’ to bring growth and development to Delhi. He also said that incubation centers should be developed for budding entrepreneurs. He said that Delhi Government’s prime focus is also on start-ups.  

He said rote learning of curriculum will not benefit the students. The curriculum should be interesting to invoke ambitions in students to learn. 

Mr Satyendar Jain, Minister of Industry and Health said that the Governments Aim is to improve the facilities of Government Hospitals and make them at par of better than private hospitals. He said that the Government will open 1,000 Mohalla clinics in the time to come and they will be better than any private clinic. He further added that the Government is going to digitize and computerize all Government hospitals. He also said that Delhi Government is soon going to announce a Health Insurance Scheme. 

Ms Sheila Dikshit, Former Chief Minister of Delhi, said that distribution of water in Delhi is a big issue. There is a lot of water wastage in Delhi. She said Delhi is a unique city with limited space. She also said that Skill development is a key sector which the current Government should focus on. 

Mr Satish Upadhyay, President-Delhi, BJP said that BJP has started a campaign of cleaning up Delhi, where the volunteers take up the task of cleaning up Delhi on 25th of every month as a tribute to Former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also said that the mindsets of people of Delhi has to change and the citizens should take pride in Delhi and should have a sense of responsibility. He also said that Delhi needs to promote tourism and should have night bazaars. 

Mr Kapil Mishra, Minister of Tourism & Water said that the Delhi Government is working on many project currently to increase inflow of Tourists. He touched upon many topics such as Delhi Festival, Hop on Hop off buses, cycling track in Mehrauli etc. He said that the next budget will have a major focus on developing Delhi as a World class tourist destination. 

Mr Imran Hussain, Minister of Environment & Food said The Delhi Government aims at increasing the green cover in Delhi. Delhi has 8% forest area that is more or less covered with greenery. While the State has about 20% green cover. For ecological sustainability one-third of total geographical area needs to be under green foliage cover in plains that applies to Delhi also. Within the next few years, the Delhi State will have increased forest cover. Also, apart from Odd and Even scheme, the Delhi Government is going to come up with many other innovative ideas to reduce pollution and congestion in streets. 

Mr Arun Goel, Vice Chairman, Delhi Development Authority said that DDA is infusing a lot of use of technology in reaching out to the people of Delhi. The Delhi Development master plan is very complex and the DDA is planning a redraft of the Master plan soon to simplify the Act. The DDA has recently launched a Mobile App which will give all information regarding the DDA Act. Also, DDA has launched an E-Measurement Book. All requests and paper work filing will be done by this E-Measurement book in the future. 

Mr Arun Arora, Division Railways Manager, Northern Railways said that people have encroached the Railways line to an extent that it is a threat to them and also the passengers. Unless these encroachments are removed, they will not be able to augment further rails and also wont be able to add more services. He further added that the motive to revive Ring Rail in Delhi was to reduce the traffic congestion in Delhi and to encourage people to start using Ring Railways whose usage has dwindled down in the past decade. Northern Railways is working with other agencies for a Multi Modal Integration of rail, Metro, Buses and Taxis to enhance last mile connectivity. The Railways is also looking at many green initiatives to reduce power consumption. He further added that Trains in the future will have solar panels on their roofs. 

Dr Alka Kaul, Chairperson, CII Delhi State Council, and; Director, Horizons Pvt. Ltd. beganher welcome remark by congratulating Mr Manish Sisodia for completing one year as the Deputy Chief Minister of the State of Delhi. 

Dr Kaul highlighted the work that CII has been closely doing with the Government of NCT over the year and suggested forming Joint Working Groups under the guidance of the State Government. 

Dr Kaul alsomentioned suggested that the vision is to attract global investment for Delhi. She invited and requested the State Government to form Joint Working Groups in the area of Education and Skills with CII. 

Mr Shreekant Somany, Chairman, CII Northern Region Council, and; Chairman and Managing Director, Somany Ceramics Limited while addressing the Conference highlighted that the Northern Regionis not only an important part of India in terms of Gross Domestic Product but also as a region where it generates high income from its states. 

He further complimented the Government for increasing the Education budget by 106%. He also laid emphasis on Technology Driven Business Competitiveness. 

Ms Rumjhum Chatterjee, Vice Chairperson, CII. Northern Region said on one hand, there is a severe paucity of highly-trained, quality labour, while on the other; large sections of the population possess little or no job skills. With boom time in the Indian industry has also come the need for skilled workforce. India needs to create 500 million skilled workers by 2022 

Mr Madhav Shriram, Vice Chairperson, CII Delhi State Council, and; Director, DCM Shriram Industries Ltd., said that wide assessments to improve the quality of education, investing more in developing good teachers, which includes good training institutes, improving the state of government schools, among others needs to be taken up urgently. Also, maybe incentives for those taking up teaching, mainly in schools, should be looked at, so that the profession can attract best talent.
