Apr 28, 2016

Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Union Minister for Labour & Employment (MoLE) and Captain Abhimanyu, Hon’ble Minster for Finance, Industries, Commerce, Labour & Employment, Govt. of Haryana, launched the CII Model Career Centre and Job Fair in Gurugram on 28th April 2016. Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the National Career Service to provide a mechanism to link job seekers and job providers. Under this scheme Union Ministry of Labour & Employment have launched 100 Model Career centres with an increased focus on career counselling.

Shri Bandaru Dattatreyat appreciated the Industry partnership in this unique model which will get end to end solutions to meet the aspirations and guide the youth of the country. He further added that such centres need to be set up not only in urban areas but also in rural India that lack adequate counselling and guidance. He said that Government will work hand in hand with Industry thereby creating a conducive environment for Industrial productivity. There should be awareness campaigns in intensive labour areas.

Captain Abhimanyu thanked the Central government for their vision and support in creating such unique PPP models. He stated that there is a need for such centres in each district of Haryana. He also extended full support to this endeavour. He mentioned that there is a need for counselling and guidance at the school level to inculcate good value systems.

Ms Rumjhum Chatterjee, Chairperson, CII Northern Region & Group Managing Director, Feedback Infra Pvt. Ltd mentioned that each year 12 million youth enter the workforce, although there is a high inflow of youth but not enough is done to enable the aspiring youth to pursue the right career choice according to their aptitude and ability. To address these pressing issues, CII in partnership with MoLE, LinkedIn, Michael Susan Dell Foundation, PeopleStrong and Wheebox have set up a futuristic Model Career Centre

Mr Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman CII Haryana State Council & Executive Director, JBM Group stated that Industry needs such interventions as often there is difficulty in finding the right talent at the right time. Model Career Centres are a step in the right direction.

The CII Model Career Centres are an outcome of the conclusions of the India Skills Report. The annual India Skills Report brought out in partnership with LinkedIn- PeopleStrong – Wheebox depicts how the students rank in terms of skills that would be imperative to judge their employability. The 3rd India Skills Report 2015 found that only 38% of the total candidates assessed were found to be employable and lacked several essential skill sets.  It also highlighted the fact if India truly wishes to reap the benefits of the demographic dividend, both the supply and demand side would need to make sincere efforts and matchmaking between both ends would be vital to get the best results.

CII is partnering MoLE for 3 Model Career Centres in Gurgaon, Chennai and Mumbai with aim to focus on career counselling; assessments; soft-skill training; placement linked services as key activities. LinkedIn, Michael Susan Dell Foundation, PeopleStrong and Wheebox are supporting CII at these centres through expertise in their respective domains.

A Job fair was simultaneously conducted to provide the employment linkage to the youth and ensure Industry finds the appropriate skilled manpower. The Job Fair at the ITI witnessed participation of over 45 employers and 2500 youth. There were employment opportunities in Auto ancillary; AC & Refrigeration; Welding; Fitters; Electricians; Machinist; Vehicle Mechanic; Carpentry; masonry; Electronic Mechanic; Banking, Finance & Insurance; Housekeeping; Telecommunication; Digital marketing; Hospitality & Tourism; Healthcare; etc
