Skill Conclave 2016

Confederation of Indian Industry organised Skill Conclave 2016 on 22 June 2016 at The Park Hotel, Kolkata, with a focus on Empowering the ecosystem through entrepreneurship.

CII has been working with various state government departments and CII member companies to facilitate training and providing employment to economically and/or socially marginal candidates,. As an apex industry association, CII has taken up the onus to inspire and motivate the industry to come forward and be an active part of the skill ecosystem by working with the government to create employment opportunities.

Aligning with the above mentioned   efforts, CII has been organizing Skill Conclaves in West Bengal since 2011, to make West Bengal a prominent place in the Skill Map of India.

National Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Policy 2015 attempted to address these concerns. It tried to bring the world of education and training closer to the world of work so as to enable them to build a Strong India.

The conclave focussed on the following aspects-

  • Schemes at the National and State Level
  • Existing training ecosystem in the state : Opportunities & Challenges
  • Creating Employment through Entrepreneurship

Smt Asima Patra, Hon’ble Minister-In-Charge, Department of Technical Education Training and Skill Development, Government of West Bengal graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Shri Hridyesh Mohan, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Technical Education and Training, Government of West Bengal delivered a Special Address at the Inaugural Session of the conclave. Dr Nilanjana Dasgupta, Additional CEO, West Bengal State Rural Livelihood Mission (WBSRLM), Government of West Bengal and Mr R N Bandopadhyaya, OSD, Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development (PBSSD), Government of West Bengal participated in the Panel Discussion on Schemes at the National and State Level as Speakers.  

With 170 delegates participating, the conclave was a huge success and very well appreciated by the participants.

Hon’ble MIC has expressed her wish to engage with CII in the days to come. Initially CII will work with the Department to help develop women entrepreneurs especially in rural areas and also will suggest and help implementation of specific  interventions in the health care sector.
