Singapore Can Partner India's Infrastructure Mission: Suresh Prabhu

Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Hon'ble Minister for Railways stressed the areas of India and Singapore economic cooperation as railways and public transportation, development of cities and urban infrastructure, water management, and development of new and cutting edge technologies among others.

Mr S Iswaran, Hon’ble Minister for Trade & Industry, Government of Singapore, emphasized that Singapore would be interested in forging partnerships in areas such as power, water and infrastructure development. He stated that Singapore would work with India in the area of skills development.

The Ministers were addressing the India Singapore Business Forum which was organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) jointly with the Singapore Business Federation (SBF).

Coinciding with the India visit of Singapore Prime Minister, H E Mr Lee Hsien Loong, Mr Teo Siong Seng, Chairman, Singapore Business Federation, is leading a 50 member high profile business delegation to India from 3-7 October 2016.  The delegation includes members from various sectors including Agri Business, Education, Finance, ICT, Infrastructure, Real Estate, Shipping and Logistics etc.

A Special Ministerial Plenary on “Economic Cooperation between India and Singapore” was organized with Mr Suresh Prabhu, Minister for Railways, Government of India and Mr S Iswaran , Minister for Trade & Industry, Government of Singapore.

Earlier, a Panel Discussion on “Forging Business Partnerships between India and Singapore”, highlighted the areas for collaboration between India and Singapore. “Singapore has developed the master plan of the new Andhra capital, Amaravati and many more cities could benefit from Singaporean expertise," said Ms Shobana Kamineni, President Designate, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Executive Vice-Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited.

Mr Malvinder Singh, Executive Chairman, Fortis Healthcare Limited, spoke about areas for sectoral cooperation between the two countries which included Joint R&D and Innovation, Skills and Infrastructure. He said, “India can utilize Singapore’s experience in consulting, project planning, design and construction."

Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII said, “Singapore occupies a strategic position in India’s development strategies and is the stepping stone for India's external regional endeavors."
