Hon’ble President of India joins the Annual Day Celebrations of the CII Skills Chhindwara Training Centre

The Hon’ble President of India graced the Annual Day of CII Chhindwara Skill Training Centre, which was attended by 1200 delegates from Industry, government, local skill partners, civil society and academia.

The CII Chhindwara Skills Training Centre (STC) was inaugurated in 2012 and has grown to a state-of-the-art institute with 10 Industry champions collaborating on 12 trades. The Industry partners have brought international standards of training and therefore the trainees have 80% placement success rates.

Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee applauded the vision and support of CII for national building, in particular skill development. He added that given India’s demographic dividend, the focus must be on making all youth skilled to ensure gainful employment and a conducive eco-system for self-employment. He thanked all Industry members who are imparting training to over 1500 youth p.a. and was confident that of more students benefitting from this initiative.

Shri Om Prakash Kohli, Hon’ble Governor of Madhya Pradesh stated that the Government of Madhya Pradesh has made remarkable progress in Industrial and social development in a very short span of time. He mentioned that the State Govt has been successful in the implementing of policy directives. Additionally, the success of Global Investor Summit, organised jointly by CII, has increased investor traction.

Shri Gourishankar Bisen, Minister of Farmer Welfare & Agricultural Development said that skill development is the catalyst for economic development of the State and the country. He assured that Government and Industry will work together in making the vision of Skill India a grand success.

Shri Kamal Nath, Member of Parliament said that the constituency of Chhindwara has the most number of skill centres in India. IT/ITEs Skill Centres have benefited over 55,000 youth till date. He thanked CII for partnering to establish the Chhindwara skill Training Centre at a time when skill development was not a focus. This partnership has prospered into one of the most successful institutes, with excellence in training, faculty and curriculum.

Dr Naushad Forbes, President, CII said that by the year 2026, 64.8% of India’s population is expected to be in the working age bracket- leading to a huge demographic dividend that needs to be harnessed for economic growth. CII is making concerted efforts to address this through its various on-ground initiatives. One such initiative is the CII Chhindwara Skill Training Centre which is soon turning into a multi-skill centre of excellence.

Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General shared that the centre had started with only 3 Industry partners working out of a rented area and now has scaled its operations to 10 partners in 10 acres of land. This is indeed a testament of CII’s commitment to skill development. He added that there are further expansion plans with increase in the number of the youth trained each year.
