GoI and DHI committed to extend their earnest support for Make in India: Shri Anant G Geete, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises

In the era of globalization, India need to remain abreast with the latest developments in the technology space to make a global impact. Today technologies are fast changing and adoption of new technologies becomes imperative for sustaining in the competitive environment. Platform’s like IETF (International Engineering & Technology Fair) are of immense importance for the industry for facilitating access and promotion of new technologies from world over. Mr Geete was the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony of 22nd IETF (International Engineering & Technology Fair) with the theme ‘Technologies for the future’ organized by Confederation of India Industry at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, today.

Shri Geete emphasized on greater focus of the industry on Make in India vision. He also urged the support of industry for the successful fruition of the mission. Government of India and DHI is committed to extend their earnest support for Make in India, he assured.  Capital goods and engineering sector will be a key driver of growth and in this endeavor department of heavy industry has come up with a Capital Goods policy and is working towards the successful implementation of the same to promote the sector.  A directory on IETF was also released by Mr Geete on the occasion.

Speaking at the inaugural session Mr Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassdor of Japan said that it was a matter of immense proud to be a strategic partner in IETF for the 5th time and praised efforts of the Indian government in successfully implementing the economic reforms. The increase in the number of Japanese companies in India reflects the interest of the companies to invest in India, he remarked. Japan is earnestly trying for doubling its target of FDI in India and number of Japanese companies in India and emphasized on more enabling steps on ease of doing business.

Welcoming the guests, earlier during the inaugural session, Mr Deep Kapuria, Chairman, CII Trade fair council informed that with the current edition in 2107 the IETF marked its 42 years and has achieved new heights and critical driving force and enable for boosting goowth and creating jobs. The current 22nd Edition has been encouraging, with over more than 4500 participants including Japan as the partner country,  he informed.

This flagship event of CII is spread over 40,000 sq. mtrs. Japan is the Partner Country at IETF 2017. Some of the other participating countries are Korea, USA, UK, China, Russia, Germany, Poland, Israel, Turkey and Latvia amongst others. IETF 2017 is supported by 10 Ministries of Government of India and Government of NCT of Delhi, besides several relevant industry associations has over 500 companies from 25 countries displaying latest products and investment opportunities in exclusive pavilions.

Speaking at the inaugural, Mr Sumit Majumdar, immediate past president, CII remarked that in the context of the global competition in the engineering sector and rapid transition of manufacturing to industry 4.0, innovation, technological intensity and R&D remain central to the growth of engineering sector in India. A special fund on R&D and innovation could assist in encouraging technology infusion, he emphasized.

Presenting her vote of thanks, Ms Rumjhum Chatterjee, Chairperson, CII Northen Region informed the 22nd IETF 2017 will showcase the latest technologies and strength of the industry from around the globe on the special sectors engineering domains such as Healthcare, Gaming, Knowledge Expo, Green Mobility, Industrial Automation, Global, Logistics, Metal & Metallurgy, Real Estate & Building Technology, Water, Waste & Recycling, Welding & Joining Technology. The other major attractions of the event are  India@75 Hackathon, Technology for a developed India, Cities for Kids Conference.
