CII Uttar Pradesh State Annual Session 2017-18

CII today organized its Annual day and a session on “The UP Business Summit - Shaping the next wave of growth” at Hotel Vivanta by Taj. The deliberations here opened up new ideas to meet aspirations of the youth of Uttar Pradesh in terms of the employable skills they need for today and for tomorrow. The session also showcased the emerging technologies which are playing a vital role in changing the manufacturing and service industry.

Mr Alok Ranjan, Chief Advisor to Chief Minister, Govt of Uttar Pradesh, spoke in detail about the right skill set that should be possessed by the youth seeking for employment opportunities. He shared that even though approximately 46 Lac people have registered for the Skill mission and around 5 Lack have already been imparted training for their skill, we still need to go a long way to see Uttar Pradesh filled with employable youth. “Response to continuous technology development should be very quick because the skill being taught today might become useless tomorrow. Therefore, linkage between industry and education system is the most important thing”, said by Mr Alok Ranjan. He also dwelt on the significance of Personality and Communication Skill Development and stressed the educational institutions to make it a part of their curriculum.

In his address, Mr Ashu Jain, Director General – Income Tax (Vigilance), Uttar Pradesh & Uttrakhand, Government of India      talked about the ongoing tax administration in the State. He discussed about the changed which are expected to come up in the State after certain tax policies. He shared how MSMEs are being encouraged to get themselves registered as corporate identities by reducing their tax rates. Mr Jain said, “Increase in tax administration and development of technology has made it easier for the department to identify tax evasion and defaulters.” He also shared that the government has now introduced electronic portals like e-samadhan and e-nivaran and mobile applications for Income Tax which has made the public interaction minimal, making the lives of the citizens of India much more convenient.

Mrs Rumjhum Chatterjee, Chairperson, CII Northern Region and & Group Managing Director, Feedback Infra Pvt Ltd, gave an view on the skill development needed in today’s competitive world. CII Northern Region has always worked towards promoting skill and technologies through various forums. She very rightly said, “Entrepreneurship should be encouraged for our youth both in urban and rural areas because we are unaware of the job opportunities that would come up in future. She further stressed on the need to spend more on the prevailing education system in our country as persons with high intellect should be the mentors of the highly talented youth to guide them on the right path. She also highlighted the need for a holistic view of all stakeholders to develop technology friendly state.

Sharing his views Mr Venugopal, Director, Nettur Technical Training Foundation, Bangalore, stressed on the importance of forming sector based Skill Councils with a specific focus on manufacturing sector.  He said, “Intervention is required to make a good training centre fulfilling the need of today and making future ready work force.”  He discussed how his institution is providing skill enhancement in all the areas of an industry like cell-site maintenance, filter, general machinist, construction skill, etc. He focused the importance of providing basic skills and factory norms to the youth.

Mr Ved Krishna, Head- Yash Group, as the moderator of the session, called for building up a framework that ensures vertical mobility of skills and a horizontal pathway between skill and mainstream qualification. “We have to think and act beyond the current necessities because with the development in the field of genetic engineering, we have to prepare ourselves today to be able to deliver the best tomorrow.” He also put forth his views on the need of emerging technologies in Uttar Pradesh to keep the pace with the global competition.

Mr Jai Agarwal, Vice-Chairman, CII Uttar Pradesh State & Director, C P Milks & Food Products P Ltd appreciated the work done by the Uttar Pradesh Government for the overall development in the state, be it Skill Development, Industrial Development, Agriculture or Infrastructure development which will surely improve the quality of living standards.

The Session saw the participation of leading lights from the Industry, government officials and Academicians.
