Meditech Conclave 2017

23 June 2017: Andhra Pradesh Technology Development & Promotion Centre (APTDC) of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized MEDITECH CONCLAVE 2017, with theme ‘Advanced Medical Technologies for Better Healthcare’ on 23 June 2017 at Hotel Taj Deccan in Hyderabad.

Mr V Parsuram, Convenor, CII Telangana Ease of Doing Business Panel & Vice President and Global Head (R&D Operations), welcomed the gathering and stated that the growth of a nation is not just its industrial, agricultural and services growth. Its performance on the human development indices is also equally important. The state of its healthcare is one of the critical measures of how a nation is performing. Indian Healthcare with a market value of US$81.3 billion in 2014 and it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 17%   to reach US$280 billion by 2020 and be among the top three healthcare markets.

In his special address Mr Kannan Raghunathan, Director, Sathguru Management Consultants said that the world is moving towards personalized medicine care. There is lots of innovation happening in the area of medical technologies, which is making the companies in this sector to be dynamic at the core move ahead with more enthusiasm. With the release of National Health Policy 2017, the government has promised to increase public health spending to 2.5% of GDP in a time-bound manner as it guarantees health care services to all Indian citizens, particularly the underprivileged.

Mr Ramesh Loganathan, Professor of Practice, Co-Innovations, IIIT Hyderabad gave a glimpse of the innovations in the Healthcare sector coming from the researchers & Startups based out of Hyderabad. He was very enthusiastic about the research and IT ecosystem in Hyderabad which is a boon for the Startups in this sector. The said that the innovations coming in the area of IT Applications for Patient Care, material science, 3D Printing, Robotics and AI  will enable patient to get cost effective solutions and is going to revolutionize the industry in a big way. The startups are working towards unique solutions to address certain problems as ha cited an example of startup which is working on Neurorehabilitation through games, there is another startups which working towards reducing the neo-natal mortality.  The Govt. of Telangana has launched Medical Devices Park last week, with an idea to make available low cost devices and services to the citizens by manufacturing locally and also to promote innovation.

Dr U Rama Krishna, Joint Executive Officer, Aarogyasri Health Care Trust, said that certain factors which play a major role in health care treatment are early detection, accessibility to treatment and addressing the need through cost effective solutions; and these are problems which all the innovations are trying to resolve. India should take lead in providing holistic, value based and cost effective solutions at a faster pace which will make it stand apart from other countries across the globe.

The conference was well attended by about 80 delegates from hospitals, medical technology companies, Startups and IT Solution Providers. The gathering made aware, various issues pertaining healthcare sector, innovations happening in the Industry and solutions to overcome the hurdles.
