Jun 19, 2018

“Consumers, exporters, manufacturers and indeed all stakeholders will benefit from the standardisation of products and services”, said Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister for Commerce and Industry, at the Valedictory Session of the 5th National Standards Conclave.

“Indian National Strategy for Standardization” was launched during the Conclave as a national policy for inculcating quality and standards into all products. The Strategy is expected to boost India’s exports.

The “CII-ASL Study on TBT/SPS Notifications at the WTO” was also issued. It examines technical barriers to trade and sanitary and phyto sanitary measures.

“BIS is willing to reinvent itself, its structure, and its system”, said Ms. Surina Rajan, Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards. She reaffirmed that there would be an increase in domestic production through standards.

Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, said that inputs from all the stakeholders and experts, both national and international, contributed to the National Standards Strategy and would continue for it’s successful implementation.

“Standards should be seen as an aspirational aspect to enhance the quality of a product or a service” said, Dr. Naushad Forbes, Past President, CII. He added that industry needs to prepare itself to embrace standards.
