Addendum to the Draft National Retail Policy report released at the CII Retail Summit 2018
Dec 13, 2018

The CII – A.T. Kearney report “National Retail Policy: Now or Forever Late” outlines the pre-requisites to enable inclusive growth of traditional and modern retail, and un-lock the sector’s true potential.

The Policy encompasses the wide array of retail formats from kirana store to modern retail E-commerce .

The purpose of this report is to serve as starting point of very crucial dialogue around orienting the policy framework that will take the Retail Sector to higher growth trajectory. While the retailers—both offline and online—are adopting multitude of strategies, the absence a single cohesive policy that governs all retail formats is creating pockets of imbalance amongst different retail formats.

Hence the need for an overarching retail policy that governs all retail formats is one of the most significant challenges that needs urgent attention.

The Policy encompasses all retail formats and adequately addresses the key pain points for the Indian retailer: improve ease of doing business, enable adoption of technology and modernization in Indian Retail, improve access to capital, aid employee upskilling with special focus on MSME retail.

The report broadly talks about creating a common policy for all formats of retail.
