Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India has issued a notification regarding the requirement of a dose of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) for all travelers to India from polio endemic countries and countries with poliovirus circulation following importation. A copy of the notification is enclosed for your ready reference (http://mohfw.nic.in/showfile.php?lid=2634) . The mandatory requirement of polio vaccination will be effective for Indian citizens from 1st March 2014.
Polio Infected Countries
1. Polio endemic countries: Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan
2. Countries with poliovirus circulation following importation: Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and Syria
This step is being taken to safeguard India’s polio free status attained after sustained, after large efforts and Investment. One can get the Oral Polio vaccination from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Nirman Bhawan, Maulana Azad, Road, New Delhi – 110001 or any designated Government Hospitals. A copy of the certificate is also enclosed at the end of the notification. The certification should be duly signed and stamped by the authority. You have to carry your original passport, photocopy of the passport and a copy of the Performa of the certificate (Enclosed in the end of the notification) while going for oral polio vaccine.
