CII is committed to advancing public health transformation in India, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2040, where a healthy population underpins sustainable economic growth and national development. Over the past two decades, CII has led initiatives across prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, reduction of infectious diseases such as TB, women’s and child health, and the promotion of healthy workplaces. Through these efforts, CII has helped position public health as a priority in corporate boardrooms, encouraging industry to move beyond compliance towards leadership in health outcomes.
In 2025, the CII Centre for Health was launched by the Hon’ble Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda at the CII Annual Business Summit, marking a key milestone in institutionalising private sector engagement in public health. Envisioned as a platform for multi-stakeholder action, the Centre focuses on advancing affordable and scalable innovations, addressing systemic barriers, catalysing private sector engagement beyond CSR, and promoting workplace wellness as a boardroom priority.
Its core focus areas include:
- Health System Strengthening
- Workplace Wellness
- Innovations in Care
The CII Public Health Vertical drives impact by unlocking the potential of public-private partnerships, shaping policy discourse, strengthening programmatic leadership, and enabling scalable solutions. This is supported through collaborations with government, multilaterals, healthcare organisations, and industry partners, with a shared vision of building a resilient and future-ready health system.
Towards ‘Health System Strengthening’, CII is working to improve the health status of weaver communities in Varanasi through its ‘Varanasi Healthy Weaver Initiative’ by addressing both workplace health risks and access to primary healthcare. The project focuses on reducing occupational health risks and strengthening linkages with public health systems to improve overall health outcomes.
CII has also developed four National White Papers on women’s and child health in partnership with the Women’s Collective Forum, followed by the convening of a closed-door dialogue with Members of Parliament to translate recommendations into constituency-level action.
As part of the pillar of ‘Workplace Wellness’, the CII TB-Free Workplaces initiative has enabled TB screening for more than 400 employees and sensitised over 600 individuals across Delhi, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu.
The pillar of ‘Innovations in Care’ supports the identification, showcasing, and scaling of high-potential public health innovations with measurable impact.
The Centre is also advancing a focused agenda on obesity as a public health priority, building multi-stakeholder policy commitment and programmatic action through national platforms such as the National Obesity Summit and multi-stakeholder consultations across different states with high obesity prevalence.
In addition, the Centre for Health is developing a knowledge repository on key public health themes, including public-private partnership exemplars in public health.
