Creating a competitive, transparent and investor-friendly business environment is critical to India's aspiration of becoming a global manufacturing and investment hub. Over the past decade, the Government of India has undertaken wide-ranging reforms to simplify regulatory processes, promote digital governance, reduce compliance burden, enhance transparency, and facilitate faster approvals across the business lifecycle. These reforms span business entry, operations, expansion and exit, and are aimed at improving the overall ease of doing business for enterprises of all sizes.
India continues to pursue an ambitious reform agenda through initiatives focused on reducing regulatory compliance, decriminalising minor business-related laws, improving logistics and infrastructure, strengthening contract enforcement, streamlining approvals through digital platforms, and fostering a predictable and efficient regulatory ecosystem. These efforts are complemented by close collaboration between the Central and State Governments to drive continuous improvements in the investment climate.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), through its Task Force on Ease of Doing Business, works closely with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministries, regulatory bodies and State Governments to support the design, implementation and assessment of business reforms. CII serves as a bridge between industry and government by facilitating structured dialogue, identifying reform priorities, documenting industry feedback and promoting best practices that enhance India's business competitiveness.
CII's Ease of Doing Business initiatives are focused on:
- Collaborating with Central and State Governments to strengthen the business and investment ecosystem.
- Identifying priority areas for regulatory and procedural reforms through evidence-based policy advocacy.
- Assessing the implementation and impact of business reforms and providing industry feedback.
- Supporting compliance reduction, process simplification and digital transformation initiatives.
- Building awareness among businesses on new reforms through publications, workshops, consultations and conferences.
- Undertaking research and benchmarking studies on key Ease of Doing Business themes.
- Strengthening the capacity of State Governments through knowledge sharing and technical support.
- Providing a continuous platform for industry-government engagement to address implementation challenges and recommend future reforms.
By fostering collaborative policy dialogue and supporting reform implementation, CII remains committed to enabling a more efficient, competitive and globally attractive business environment that accelerates investment, innovation and sustainable economic growth in India.
