CII works closely with the stakeholders for strategizing and implementing all the Design initiatives in the country. CII Design initiatives are focused in the following areas: Competitiveness of Industry by Design-Branding/ Promotion of Design through Media, Design Education, Design for Culture, Society & Environment and Implementation of Design Policy. CII’s last 10 year’s work in Design resulted in Government’s announcement of National Design Policy. Some of the ongoing activities are Design Clinic for MSMEs, India Design Report, India Design Resource Book, 2nd India Design Festival & 9th CII-NID Design Summit, Workshops on Blue Ocean strategy through Design thinking etc.
 
 
Key Initiatives / Information
 
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) announce the Fulbright-Nehru-CII Fellowships for Leadership in Management Program for the academic year 2012-2013. Indian business managers, whose employers would be willing to bear 50% (US$ 18,400) of the total cost (US$ 36,800), may compete to attend this specially designed management program at the Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business in Pittsburgh from May 23 to July 31, 2012. Aimed to broaden overall perspectives and to strengthen strategic, functional and leadership skills in global business, this program combines classes with group work, industry visits, and networking. 76th CII Northern Region Business Outlook Survey is a quarterly study conducted to gauge the sentiment in the economy. Earlier, the survey was conducted bi-annually, but from the 74th Survey onwards the study is conducted on a quarterly basis in order to get a more frequent indicator of business sentiment. The current survey gives an outlook on business sentiments for the first quarter of 2011-12 as compared to the last quarter of 2010-11.
 
The CII and WMG have worked together for over a decade. The Group understands the need of Indian industry better than any other UK institution. India is fast becoming a manufacturing economy and, more it can learn from the expertise of organizations like WMG, the more competitive it will be as a country. The Group has links with many of its top engineering / manufacturing companies which include Tatas, TVS Motor, Sundaram Clayton and others and has been instrumental in helping these companies achieve global competitiveness.
 
CII’s National Committee on Design is the reference point in India on Design and works closely with the stakeholders for strategizing and implementing all the Design initiatives in the country.
 
CII’s National Committee on Technology was constituted way back in early nineties and the Chairman of CII’s first National Committee on Technology was Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. CII works in various areas like technology promotion, facilitating Industrial R&D and Industry’s investment in R&D, facilitating partnership developments for technology/R&D collaborations, capacity building and facilitating technology exports, providing advisory and technical services for implementing technology projects benefiting society and common man all towards creating innovation eco-system in the country and many more.
 
A not-for-profit society (under establishment) jointly promoted by CII and the Department of Science & Technology for implementing India’s designated bilateral Industrial R&D fund for supporting industries in R&D and International Partnership Development Activities.
 
To promote and inculcate a spirit of innovation in India, numerous initiatives have been taken by the Indian government as well as by Industry/academic leaders to encourage and harness breakthrough technology ideas in the society. One of the significant steps is "India Innovation Initiative" or “i3” - a joint initiative of Agilent, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India (DST) & Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), which aims at promoting young innovators and facilitates the commercialization of the innovations and creating an innovation eco-system in the country by sensitizing, encouraging the innovators / innovations.
 
Innovation Grid is a web-based networking portal for bringing all the stakeholders of the innovation to market process on one single platform. The aim is to facilitate faster innovation commercialization.
 
IRIS is a joint initiative of CII, DST and Intel, for encouraging and promoting the innovators among school students. Completed 3rd successful year in 2008, having received around 1000 innovative projects from school students, 28 out of which were selected as top innovations. 6 of them represented India at Intel Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) in USA in May 2009

It is our belief that the only way for Indian industry to have sustainable and inclusive growth is to innovate. With this belief we have taken a number of initiatives in the area of innovation.
 
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and National Institute of Design (NID) have been jointly organizing the CII-NID Design Summit since year 2000. In last few years, this collaboration has expanded to include a number of Indian and international Design organizations.
