"Our Standards regime is still at an early stage of development. The awareness and adoption of standards are relatively low, compared to other big economies of the world. With the growing integration with big economies through several trade agreements, the tariff barriers are slowly disappearing. Standards and conformity assessment appear to be a new form of trade barrier for the exporting countries. Taking note of this, the Government has started giving its due importance to standards, the Industry too must embrace a stronger standards regime.", said Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Cabinet Secretary, Government of India in his Valedictory Address at the session on "Way Forward" at the Standards Conclave 2016, held from 23-24 June 2016 in New Delhi.
