Description

The main objective of this initiative is to bring industry together to exchange views & encounter new technologies, facilitate continuous performance improvement in thermal power plants and thereby achieve world class standards.

Speaking at the inaugural session of Power Plant Summit 2015 on 16 July, 2015 at Hyderabad organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mr A Chandra Sekhara Reddy,Chief Executive Officer, The State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM), Department of Energy, I&I, Government of Andhra Pradesh, underlined that Power Plants in India should continue to pursue ecological sustainability and set new global benchmarks in conservation of resources. He also highlighted the adoption of super critical technology by power plants for overall improvement of the efficiency.

Mr A Chandra Sekhara Reddy informed that,Government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to adopt latest technologies available throughout the globe on energy efficiency front for the benefit of the individual consumer as well as for the State of Andhra Pradesh. He also informed that the EESL in collaboration with SECM has already completed the distribution of about 5.5 Million LED bulbs in the domestic sector under DELP Program and replacement of 92,000 Sodium Vapour Lamp with LED street lights in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation and other Municipalities in Phase-I which led to annual energy savings of around 500 Million Units and achieved 23% savings over conventional lighting. These initiatives will soon spread across the State, and today, the State of Andhra Pradesh has become front runner in implementation of various energy efficiency activities, he added.

He also informed that the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and Government of Andhra Pradesh together have announced allocation of Rs. 1,000 Crores funds for promoting energy efficiency improvements across the State.

Further, Mr A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, on behalf of Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General, Bureau of Energy

Efficiency (BEE), delivered the special message of Dr Ajay Mathur at the inaugural session.

Quoting Dr Ajay Mathur, Mr Chandra Sekhara Reddy said, ‘ We are keen to achieve sustainability in power sector, without which we cannot expect considerable economic growth. In this regard, Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation programmes will play a pivotal role for sustainability of power sector and also paves the way for achieving energy security for the nation. Further, quoting Dr Ajay Mathur, he said, ‘Indian industry is taking up initiatives to ensure growth is not at the cost of the environment and has clearly realized that pursuing ecological sustainability ultimately results in making Indian industry more competitive & world class’.

Mr Sankar Bandyopadhyay, General Manager, NTPC Limited shared his thoughts on opportunities for the continual improvement in performance and achieve world class standards for power plants. He also highlighted importance of technology and knowledge sharing among the stakeholders for achieving competitiveness and sustainable growth.
