CII 13th Manufacturing Summit 2014 - Making 'Make in India' a Reality
HighLights

·      Indian economy is going through one of its most positive periods in over a decade. The country has a stable, industry-friendly government, elected with a clear majority. The Hon’ble Prime Minister has made explicit announcements about making India a manufacturing hub, with ambitious references to SEZs, and 'zero-defect' manufacturing. So long as this positivism translates into policy changes and increased investments, Indian manufacturing should move into an era of higher growth than before. The global climate also appears to be filled with optimism, with global GDP expected to grow at a faster rate this year and the next.

·      At the same time, the manufacturing competitiveness map of the world is being re-drawn. Erstwhile manufacturing super-powers such as China are losing ground, thanks to increasing labour and energy costs. Newer manufacturing centers are coming up. Mexico, US, UK are all now very competitive manufacturing locations in their parts of the world. Many trends in manufacturing are slowly sweeping the world – the most perceptive being the digital trend, driven by ubiquitous connectivity, cheaper and better devices and greater processing power. Deciphering these trends and gearing up for the next few years of rapid growth is critical for manufacturing companies today.
