New dimensions of ongoing Digital Revolution is evolving year-by-year, which is enabling an abundance of information to move faster, cheaper, in more intelligible forms, in more directions, and across borders of every kind. India’s growth story is driven by domestic consumption. India is blessed with a unique demographic situation where more than 55 percent of the total population are young.

 

The 9th edition of the CII Knowledge Summit 2015 organized by CII on 19-20 March, 2015 at Bangalore was built around a central theme of making the dream of a Digital India a possibility and an opportunity for all citizens in India to participate in the economic and social renaissance. The Summit drew focus to the transformational impact that technology can have on India's potential for future development, especially in terms of empowerment of each and every economic group in the country through access to knowledge and economic opportunities. 

The announcements of Digital India and Make in India have generated excitement in India and abroad. However the real potential will be realised only if extensive use of ICT and knowledge management is done across industry sectors. This summit will explore all the imperatives and come up with specific solutions and architectures said Dr Ganesh Natarajan, Vice Chairman and CEO, Zensar Technologies and Chairman, CII National Committee on Knowledge Management and Business Transformations. 

The case for broadband has already been established with surveys expounding the benefits of a networked and a connected economy. Broadband will play a critical role in our quest to transform India into a developed country The Digital India Program aims to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy by leveraging IT as a growth engine of new India. As the capabilities associated with digital technology have grown, ICT has become increasingly crucial to service delivery and design, opening up a wealth of opportunity for improvement and innovation to drive social improvement and economic growth. 

Mr Dinesh Malkani, President, India and SAARC, Cisco Systems India Private Limited drew focus to the unprecedented growth in connectivity, data and broadband which is accelerating India’s transition to a knowledge economy. Digitization, which harnesses the power of the Internet of Everything - the connection of people, process, data and things, will transform our industries and change everything, from the way we work to how we serve our customers. A Digital India will contribute to the country’s overall global competitiveness by fuelling economic growth, creating jobs and fostering innovation. 

Sharing the IBM experience, Ms Vanitha Narayanan, Managing Director, IBM India Private Limited stated, for a knowledge economy, skills and innovation are the core ingredients. Innovation requires a strong foundation in technology.  At IBM, high value innovation and transforming businesses are our core strengths. 

Further addressing the Summit, Mr B Santhanam, Managing Director, Saint-Gobain Glass India Limited, Mobile Technologies & digitization said ushering in major innovations redefining value chains and enabling transformative growth in diverse industries such as education, skills, healthcare, agriculture, logistics, financial services and government. Digitalization holds the key for India to transcend its barriers of scale, speed, scope and standards.

The Summit agenda discussed the roadmap for making Digital India a reality and building ecosystems for knowledge creation, sharing and collaboration for India's economic growth and development. The annual Indian MAKE (Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise) Awards, recognizing those Indian organisations which are leaders in transforming enterprise knowledge into stakeholder value was received by 9 organisations. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd was the overall 2014 winner, other winners included Akshaya Patra Foundation, eClerx Services Ltd, Hindustan Unilever Ltd; Infosys Limited, Tata Chemicals Ltd; The Titan Company, Tech Mahindra and Wipro Limited.
