Conference on Smart Urbanization 2015
 
 
Description

CII organized a Conference on Smart Urbanization focussing on the key parameters like policy framework, the governance model and government – industry participation today at Gurgaon.  A CII-PwC report also recommended a state level taskforce for regulation and implementation on various aspects of smart urbanization. 

Transportation, security and accessible healthcare facilities need to be priorities for smart urbanization. We need to benchmark cities to create competitiveness that would lead to creation of smart cities. - Mr T L Satyaprakash, Deputy Commissioner, Gurgaon, Government of Haryana.  

Governance structure should change with the changing aspirations of citizens. The governance has to be made transparent and effective to drive smart urbanization into all regions of the state - Mr Vikas Gupta, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Gurgaon, Government of Haryana. 

The report on smart urbanization provides a roadmap to transform Haryana’s cities into smart cities in order to sustain urbanisation. We believe this report will provide the right impetus to policymakers and stimulate progressive debate on sustaining rapid urbanisation across Haryana - Mr Neeraj Munjal, Past Chairman, CII Haryana State Council & Managing Director, Shivam Autotech Ltd. 

The CII-PwC report recommends a state level state taskforce to be formed to drive state smart city policy, planning and programme implementation guidelines and a city level sub taskforce to drive the implementation based on localized problems - Mr NSN Murty, Associate Director & Leader Smart Cities, PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt. Ltd. 

Buildings consume 40 percent of the world’s energy reservoir. Smart cities have to be synonymous with the green cities. Centralized energy command centres can help in reducing the cost of energy consumption - Mr Gaurang Pandya, Managing Director, Carrier Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Ltd. 

CII recommended the creation of a state level Task Force with the Haryana Government, academia, industry captains and the civil society. In order to attain the goal of smart urbanization, we need to strengthen the basic units, Our Cities – Cities like Gurgaon, Faridabad, Karnal, Panipat etc. which would require support from the local authorities as well - Mr Sameer Munjal, Vice Chairman, CII Haryana State Council & Managing Director, Satyam Auto Components Ltd. ? 

The conference had speakers from companies like Honeywell India, Tech Mahindra, Unitech Ltd, Bombardier Transportation, United Technologies Corporation, CRISIL Trans Metalite, SPML Infra, Morphogenesis, and Atkins.
