1-      Mr. M C Sampath, Hon’ble Minister for Rural Industries, Cottage Industries, Small Industries & Nutritious Noon Meal, Government of Tamil Nadu said, “the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Selvi J Jayalalithaa has sanctioned Rs 50 crore to modernise all District Industries Centres with facilities such as; Computers with internet connections, Video Conferencing facilities, etc for the benefit of MSMEs in the State . Tamil Nadu Government is in the process of renovating 21 District Industries Centres in the State besides construction of new buildings for 11 District Industries Centres, which are currently operating in rented premises

 

2-     Mr R Balakrishnanan, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary & Director,  Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Government of Tamil Nadu said, “MSME sector has emerged as a highly vibrant and dynamic sector of the Indian economy over the last five decades.  It helps in high industralisation of rural and backward areas, besides generating employment opportunities for  rural youth. Institutes like EDI came into  existence in 2001, serving the purpose of entrepreneurial interests of the SMEs.  It is a government body which aims to increase the awareness of entrepreneurship in Tamil Nadu. It caters to service people varying from schools and colleges and also youth from across various sections of the society.

 

3-     Mr T T Ashok,  Immediate Past Chairman, CII  Southern Region & Managing Director, Taylor Rubber Pvt Ltd said, “the contribution of MSMEs to GDP and total industrial production was estimated to be  around 8% and 44% respectively. The MSME sector accounts for about 45 per cent of the manufacturing output. The lack of skilled manpower, availability of credit and access to modern technology are few key issues affecting the growth of MSME sector.  MSMEs today are competing with the international suppliers. Companies must invest and be inclined to research & development of new products to gain competitive advantage.  Product development and innovation is important to sustain the competition in the international market.

 

4-     Mr P Ganesh, Chairman, MSME Sub-Committee, CII(SR) & Executive Director,  Glass & Glazing Systems Pvt Ltd said MSME also need special policy consideration during turbulent periods as prevalent today. Their Linkages with large companies need to be strengthened and deepened for mutual benefit

 

5-     Mr A K Bamba, Development Commissioner, MEPZ &  Additional Director General of Foreign Trade, South Zone,  Government of India said, “ India as a domestic market has high potential and is seen as a vital market for investors in comparison to China. Off lately China as a market is becoming expensive and hence  lot of investors are turning towards India. Investors are finding India as a better option in terms of investment in the SEZ sector.

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector has been recognized as engine of growth all over the world. Apart from supporting large industries, MSMEs serve as a breeding ground for innovation and adaptation. MSMEs thus can be looked upon as a source of constant renewal in commerce and industry and as a wellspring of competition and dynamism. Consequent to the increased globalisation of the Indian economy, MSMEs are required to face new challenges.  

 

The Conclave would aim to deliberate on various issues impacting MSMEs growth and also provide a platform to collaborate, network and explore opportunities to enhance growth.
