a)     Ms Aruna Sundararajan, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India said that the Real Estate Regulatory Bill is likely to be presented in the next session of Parliament. The Bill has completed taking on board the views of the stakeholders and was expected to come before the Union Cabinet shortly.

 

b)    Reading out the speech of Mr Deepak Parekh, Chairman of Housing Development Finance  Corporation Ltd, Mr G Krishnamurthy, CEO and Managing Director, HDFC Property Fund, said the long-term prospects of the real estate industry in India was very bright owing to increasing population and rapid urbanization. He said that the real estate industry should press for the setting up of a regulator to bring in more transparency and commitment to customers for the long-term benefit of the industry.

 

c)    Mr Firdose Vandrevala, Chairman, Estate South 2012 and Chairman and Managing Director Hirco Developments Pvt Ltd, said the real estate industry was highly interdependent and required the team work of people concerned to ensure success. He touched upon some of the important points of action the industry urgently needed for its orderly growth.

 

d)    Mr C Shekhar Reddy, Vice President – National, CREDAI during his address mentioned that Government should provide a win-win situation for development. He also added that developing a mandatory authority for regulating development in the sector and implementing policies like EWS & LIG will help in bringing developments in the sector.

 

e)     Mr M R Jaishankar, Managing Director, Brigade Group during the discussion added that this cultural change within the company towards each region of the country takes long time to develop.

 

f)      Mr C Shekhar Reddy, Vice President – National, CREDAI mentioned that a national skill development corporation has been created and about 20 sectors are identified and for each sector a sector skill council is formed which will accredit the process undertaken.

Indian Realty sector is gearing up for the next wave of growth and as cities in Southern India move ahead with pace, it is imperative that they focus on areas that will help sustainable growth track and add to its competitive advantage . However, in order to put India on a real, sustainable growth track, it needs a series of reforms and an institutionalized governance plan that can further raise the quality standards.

To highlight various issues that deter the development of Indian Real Estate sector and to provide a platform to seek inputs from various stakeholders with a view to formulate strategies to respond to these issues, CII Southern Region is organised  the 6th edition of Estate South 2012 on 3-4 May, 2012 at Chennai. Estate South 2012 is an initiative that aims at discussing short and long term strategies and submit proposals/recommendations to respective Governments towards the orderly growth of this sector.

The conference envisioned the growth of the sector for the next decade in terms of building the required capacity to meet the demand, with support from latest technology and process
