4th Manufacturing Innovation Conclave 2014

·  Innovation is the key mantra for spurring growth in Indian manufacturing sector said by Mr Ajay Shankar, Member Secretary, NMCC, Govt of India Chief Guest at CII’s 4th Manufacturing Innovation Conclave held today in New Delhi. He emphasized on cost effective & competitiveness to be the focus area to attain the height of growth for any manufacturing organisation. He also said that we need transformation in Manufacturing Sector gauging at the customer perspective.  He mentioned that China has become a trading partner and manufacturing in China is very acute for us. Innovation in quality and business excellence is a necessity and need to be recognized at present.  We need to change our traditional perception and create a culture of Innovation within organisation to set a trend to success to be a Global leader in manufacturing said by Mr Shankar.

Further speaking, Mr Shankar mentioned that we need to encourage pool of energetic young Indian and crop up innovation within them. He also said that spending money is not the measure to Innovation unless it is sensitised and exert excellence.

·     Mr Jayant Davar, Immediate Past Chairman, CII Northern Region in his Opening remarks said that Innovation and ideas comes from shop floor and innovation will drive us to the future of success. Mr Davar said that in India the spending on R&D is very low in compare to countries like US, China and Israel. Industry needs to invest more on R&D and innovation to spur the growth in the Manufacturing Sector. e added that Manufacturing growth in turn is primarily the result of Innovation and measuring the innovation capabilities and performance of countries around the world is essential to evaluate progress and priorities. Mr Davar emphasize on fostering Innovation in India as revolution to compete with odd growth.

·      Mr M M Singh, Chief Mentor, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd said that Innovation in Sourcing, Process and Management plays decisive role in manufacturing sector. He added that Challenges gives opportunities to think and improvise new trends of opportunities lying within our grasp and reach. He said that flexible concept is important to cultivate Innovation as a culture in an organsiation. Mr Singh further added that we need to involve everyone in an organisation to exchange the ideas collectively to drive Innovation as a practice. Mr Singh opined that the key of innovation is in our hand but we need think differently to unlock the door of Innovation.

·    Presenting the Theme of the Summit of Mr Naresh N Shahani, Founder & Managing Director, BMGI –Knowledge Partner of the summit said that we live in interesting times and consistency wherein  change need to coexist to drive Innovation . Mr Shahani said that adaption rate is very high and we need to sustain it for long term. Innovation has been inculcated in the DNA of the organisation to consistently stay at the top said by Mr Shahani. He opined that the dimension for thriving Innovation must be clarity of purpose, recognition, outside in perspective.

·       In his concluding remarks, Mr Sameer Gupta, Vice Chairman, CII UP State Council said that Indian manufacturing is a diverse and vibrant industry that plays a significant role in the economy. He also said that Manufacturing is an important driver of innovation in industry – being responsible for a quarter of research and development among businesses. Mr Gupta added that a more system-wide approach to building an innovation system is required. He opined that Policies and programs that support the development of knowledge, skills, competencies and capabilities that can be effectively translated across industry sectors are likely to contribute to the future robustness of Indian manufacturing.

·      The Conclave was well attended by more than 150 participants from various manufacturing companies with presence of eminent speakers from companies like Ricoh, Rolls Royce, Siemens, Autodesk,  NBC, Autodesk, HCL, Polaris, Rockwell, Ingersoll and other.
