Description

CII Andhra Pradesh is organized a one day Conference on Ports and Logistics with the theme “Investment Scenario and Opportunities for Ports & Logistics Sectors in India” on 17 December 2012 at Visakhapatnam with KPMG India as our Knowledge Partner for the conference.

Ports on the East coast are expected to play a significant role in the growth of Indian Ports sector, with share of traffic expected to increase from 23% in 2010 to 34% in 2014 driven by rising trade with other Asian economies.  In this period of anticipated growth, collaboration between private sector and government bodies will be critical.  With the rising standards of global ports, Indian ports need to stay competitive by enhancing performance metrics across existing operations.  By adopting technology innovations, upgrading infrastructure, enhancing resource skills, port operations need to transcend to the next stage of cargo handling efficiency.

The efficiency of EXIM supply chains are not solely dependent on port infrastructure but on the larger logistics ecosystem of connecting road and rail suppor infrastructure.  The development/expansion of new/existing ports cannot be in isolation and upgrade in related hinterland connectivity is a major aspect to enhance overall efficiency.  The development of a wider logistics community including freight forwarders, customs house agents, warehousing providers and transporters is integral in creating a robust logistics environment.  The East coast has previously lagged behind other parts of the country given a wider focus on trade and industry being focused in these regions.  The synchronized and systematic developed of a logistics community with emerging port infrastructure will compel a shift from traditional logistics hubs.
