Seminar on Agricultural Warehousing
HighLights

Warehousing plays a very vital role in promoting agriculture marketing, rural banking and financing and ensuring Food Security in the county.  It enables the markets to ease the pressure during harvest season and to maintain uninterrupted supply of agricultural commodities during off season. Hence, it solves the problems of glut and scarcity, which are the usual problems in agricultural marketing. Though warehousing is an independent economic activity, yet is closely linked with production, consumption and trade.

With the advent of Green Revolution, our country experienced phenomenal growth in agriculture production leading to huge surplus. The situation now is such our country does not have the required storage facilities resulting in avoidable wastages. Added to this the tremendous growth in industry over the past few decades has further put pressure on in creating adequate facilities.

Warehousing enables the markets to ease the pressure during harvest season and to maintain uninterrupted supply of agricultural commodities during off season. Hence, it solves the problems of glut and scarcity, which are the usual problems in agricultural marketing. As per the working group report on warehousing development an additional 35 million MTs warehousing capacity is required during the 12th Five Year Plan period for the storage of all major crops. It is felt that there is a scope for private sector to complement the efforts of the state in ensuring that the warehousing services does not lag behind the demand and the current wastages are eliminated for the benefit of the society and the business community at large.

With this as the background, CII Andhra Pradesh organized a seminar focusing on warehousing issues and challenges. The objectives of the session were:

v      To recognize the importance of an organized and effective warehouse storage system.

v      To know and appreciate the modern trends in warehousing

v      To learn the use of inventory management in warehouse management.

v      To adopt the different warehouse procedures and best practices in warehouse management.
