Food Processing would further boost the growth in Agriculture Sector, say’s Experts at Foodbiz India 2019

16 October 2019, Tirupati: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with Andhra Pradesh Food Processing Society, Department of Industries and Commerce Government of Andhra Pradesh organized 5th edition of FOODBIZ INDIA 2019 with a theme focusing on ‘Rejuvenating Innovation and Challenges in Food Processing and Allied Sectors’ here today. The FOODBIZ Conference & Exposition provided a platform for networking between the various players in the entire value chain system of food industry.

Addressing at Foodbiz India 2019 Mr L Sridhar Reddy, Chief Executive Officer, Andhra Pradesh Food Processing Society (APFPS), Government of Andhra Pradesh said that Andhra Pradesh is focussing on supply side by giving subsidies to industries. However there is a need to focus on increase demand for products among the people. There is a need to enhance the purchasing power of people to create more demand, he added. In this regard, Government of India has initiated Gram Samriddi Yojana to encourage unorganised food processing enterprises by giving subsidy of Rs. five to ten lakhs rupees with an outlay of 750 crores to Andhra Pradesh for the next five years, he said in his address.

Referring to the development of food processing industry as a part of Navarathnalu Mr L Sridhar Reddy said that Government would focus on developing entrepreneurship in rural areas. He emphasised that there is a need for development of incubation centres for food processing sectors which can be initiated with the help of reputed institutions like IITs and JNTUs to setup them.

Mr. Chakravarthi AVPS, Global Ambassador - World Packaging Organization, President, INBAH (Indo Netherlands Business Association) & CEO & Managing Director, Ecobliss India Pvt Ltd mentioned that as per Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted in every year. As per World Packaging Organization (WPO), estimates that it was 322 billion of processed food market in 2016 and it is expected to grow to 543 billion by 2020. He appreciated that around 2 million people are employed in forty thousand units of different food processing units.

Prof. KN Satyanarayana, Director IIT Tirupati, in his perspective felt that improvement of food processing machinery efficiency can be improved with the help of engineering techniques. In this connection ,IIT Tiruapati would focus its research on food processing techniques and precision agriculture.

Mr Vijay Naidu Galla, Chairman, CII Andhra Pradesh and President Quality, HSE & CI, Mangal Industries Ltd in his welcome address said that in line with Food Safety Standards Authority of India’s ‘Eat Right India’ and FAO’s focus on combatting global hunger, CII Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan celebrated today as the auspicious World Food Day with the theme : ‘Eat Right for a Healthy India’ to re-intensify Awareness Campaigns on Food Safety and Importance of Healthy and Nutritious Food for All by organizing experience sharing on best practices, deliberations by experts and various interactive and engagement activities involving all stakeholders across the country. He administered the CII SKA pledge among the participants on the occasion of World Food Day. The pledge towards ensuring to work towards healthy Diet for Zero hunger World by strengthening Nationwide Actions on Eat Right Healthy India.

Mr Datla Tirupathi Raju, Convener, CII Andhra Pradesh Primary Sector and Executive Chairman, Vijaynagar Biotech Private Limited in his theme address mentioned that there has been growing awareness about better health consciousness, need for convenience, and improving lifestyles, the share of processed food is gradually and steadily increasing on consumer plates across the world.
