CII Design Excellence Awards Announced
Mr Udayant Malhoutra, Chairman, CII National Committee on Design and Managing Director, Dynamatic Technologies Limited said that Design Leadership is the need of the hour and added that design leadership is not only about looking at someone as a leader, but inculcating design leadership in everyone within organizations and families. That he said will be the true transition of India in to a design driven nation.
He was speaking at a Session titled “India’s Transition to a Design-Driven Nation” at the 14th CII-NID Design Summit at the Knowledgexpo, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry in partnership with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Ministry of Science and Technology on November 20-21 in Greater Noida.
The theme of 14th CII-NID Design Summit is “Design Trinity”. In today’s interconnected and complex world, it is the trinity of business, technology and design that is essential for companies and societies to achieve new products, new services and new businesses.
Mr Navroze Godrej, Member, Board of Directors, Godrej and Boyce expressed the need of percolating design and design thinking in different walks of life, especially in public services. He said that it is essential for public services to be design led.
While looking at the Design sector, Professor Pradyumna Vyas, said that “The Indian design industry is coming of age. It is a vibrant industry with very competent design companies, and quite a few design led organizations. With every passing day, this number is growing and so is the footprint of Indian design.”
Acknowledging his views, Mr Prashant Mysore, Director Technical of Dassault Systemes India Ltd. said “Design is the most effective knowledge based capital that drives innovation and growth. It is fast becoming the valuable resource that everyone must strive to acquire.”
The CII Design Excellence awards were also presented during the Knowledgeexpo.
About the CII Design Excellence Awards.
As a part of its ongoing pursuit to establish design as a tool for national competitiveness, CII initiated the “CII Design Excellence Awards” from the year of 2011.
The awards are a true acknowledgement of the design excellence, innovation and originality of Indian Design
The CII Design Excellence Awards discover the new paradigms of design in India, which answers the call of making Indian industry and manufacturing more competitive and innovative. The awards showcase the emerging face of design in India and its newer manifestations. The India Design Council endorses CII Design Excellence Awards.
These awards follow a rigorous and objective assessment process. The awards are given in four main categories of Visual Communication, Industrial Design, Interaction Design and Mobility Design and their 28 sub-categories. Judging is based on clear criteria of design excellence including Form and Function, Innovation, and design success besides other parameters.

The CII Design Excellence Awards set the standard for good design in India and is the ultimate accolade for the design work done over the past 24 months. As in the past years, the entries this year established new benchmarks of design excellence and showed how the profession of design is rising to the challenge of new technological opportunities and business needs.
