Companies Embracing Innovation and Knowledge Management Can Power Double Digit Growth: Adi Godrej, President CII / CII’s KM Summit focuses on leadership
Mar 07, 2013

Sustained Double Digit Growth -Companies that increase revenue significantly year after year possess a rigorous management process that aggressively seeks revenue increases in five fundamental areas: Retention of existing customers, Market share gains, Market positioning exploitation, Adjacent market entry and New business investment. The theme for this year’s summit is KM for Double Digit Growth with the broad focus on What CEOs should know about KM and how CIOs and CKOs can play strategic roles.

Knowledge Management has become a key item on the corporate agenda and is increasingly seen as a key enabler that fosters the organization’s ability to innovate stated Mr Adi Godrej, President CII & Chairman, Godrej Group while inaugurating the CII Knowledge Management  Summit 2013.

Mr Adi Godrej further stated that the good news is that we have excellent companies with excellent practices to pull from.  The bad news is that we don’t have enough platforms by which these practices spread.  One such platform is this summit, an annual CII event which will bring together various stakeholders from industry, academia, public sector, and society, to enter into learning, discussion and debate, all around knowledge management.  This is a forum that will bring out various viewpoints and we want to convert them into actionable plans and make recommendations to the appropriate industry bodies and ministries for maximum impact.  This is where practitioners of KM come together, both within India and abroad, and enter into conversations.  Such a social process is very important in making a strategic impact.

Swati Piramal, Vice Chairperson, Piramal Enterprises Ltd  said that India has great potential in research and knowledge creation and the Government must remove impediments to growth.

Ganesh Natarajan who has been leading the KM initiative for CII since 2011 stated that the focus has moved from just technology to include business processes, organization culture and leadership, all of which contribute to the effective management of knowledge – in organisations and society.

Ganesh Natarajan stated that to realize this intent, CII has established 3 different KM Platforms: a) KM India as an annual conference and summit brings together people from academia, the public sector and corporations to discuss and debate the most recent trends in Knowledge Management. b) City-specific social processes should be instilled so that rich social networks get created between practitioners of KM in key localities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderbad. c) A KM India Portal has been created to support the above 2 activities and online activities from a larger audience

India is being recognized globally as a prominent intellectual power. It is also understood that knowledge is a key strategic asset that must be harnessed to further develop a robust economic system.  The long term intent of the KM India movement is to create an ecosystem within India via which we are able to build and harness India’s intellectual capital. Knowledge when created, shared and applied, creates rich economic value. To accelerate the production and consumption of knowledge, we must create catalysts which support it.
