Deepak Agarwal, CEO, Greater Noida Authority invites industry to partner in Green Development at CII CleanTech Summit

Mr Deepak Agarwal, CEO, Greater Noida Authority speaking today at CII’s 2nd Clean Tech Summit in Noida today invited Industry to partner authority to move towards sustainable green development. He also urged industry to come in as a partner and not look at authority solely for funding the projects.  He underlined that the Authority has identified Clean Energy, Water Conservation and Solid Waste Management as key areas where partnership is sought which will lead to better quality of cities and life for the citizens.  He underlined that retrofitting of cities is difficult & costly and the need is to develop new smart cities and shared that 750 acres space has been identified to develop a state of the art smart city.

Mr Agarwal emphasized on the importance of rooftop solar energy to meet the ever increasing energy demands. He shared with participants that the Solar Policy released recently will help in moving towards green and clean energy.  Underlining the importance of water and its utilization as a paid commodity, he stressed that the Water metering is critical  since the users will have to pay for its usage which will lead to lesser wastage and better water management.  The dumping site has been identified for the 750tonnes of solid waste generated daily in Noida & Greater Noida and by the year end solid waste treatment system is expected to be in place.

Sharing his views at the Inaugural Session, Mr Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) mentioned that it is critical to move from the fossil fuels to energy efficient systems and in this context some countries are doing a great job which India needs to adopt especially in the area of solar roof tops in order to make an immediate impact. Talking about agriculture he opined that irrigation pumps should be the first and prime target for converting to solar. He also talked about the phenomenal savings achieved from the usage of LED bulbs though there is still scope to make it more affordable.  He mentioned that a revolution can come through off-grid applications of the renewable energy and the agricultural applications can be the foremost target which can meet a sizeable chunk of the energy requirements.

Mr K B Biswas, Chairman Central Ground Water Board stressed upon the importance of using efficient water conservation systems. He mentioned that depleting water levels are alarming and efficient demand side management is critical. He also mentioned that usage of scientific irrigation processes will help tide over the current situation to a large extent. 

Initiating the Inaugural Session, Mr C P Gupta, Chairman, CII Western Uttar Pradesh Council and Managing Director, Ambica Steels Limited gave the macro view of the thrust of the Central and various states governments, with Uttar Pradesh in particular, on the renewable energy sources.  He brought to the fore the enablers which will strengthen the renewable energy movement, be it manufacturing of equipment, be it skilled manpower, financial viability of the projects and also the availability of finance.

Mr Sachin Sharma, Chairman, CII-IGBC Western Uttar Pradesh Chapter, focused on the scenario in Uttar Pradesh and contribution of Green Building movement in green development.  U.P has 75 districts, 689 cities/towns, 820 development blocks which translates into a great opportunity to develop them in a sustainable manner.

Mr Sudhanshu Gupta, Director, Ernst & Young, while giving the theme address, gave views on the overall energy situation and shared how renewable energy is changing the game.
