Later in the day, during the press conference held at the city hotel Mr Sudhir Mehta, Chairman, CII Western Region shared CII’s insight on GDP growth projections for the year 2016-17. Mr Mehta stated that “With the expectation of normal monsoons, reduced interest rates, greater ease of doing business and public expenditure thrust given to rural and infrastructure sector, CII expects the GDP growth to be around 8%. CII strongly believes that India has the potential and the need to grow at double digit rates of GDP growth sustainably in the medium term. This would not only entail further government actions to create an enabling environment, but also requires improvement in overall efficiency leading to improvement in productivity.”

Speaking about the theme, Mr Mehta informed that “CII has set its Theme for the year 2016-17 and beyond as “Building National Competitiveness”. CII has laid emphasis on 6 key areas of focus and these form the enablers for building National Competitiveness. These are Human Development, Corporate Integrity & Good Citizenship, Ease of Doing Business, Innovation & Technical Capability, Sustainability and Global Integration.”

He further added “CII has taken up Building Competitiveness: Deliberate Detail, Deliver Delight as the theme of CII Western Region this year, and the focus will primarily be on building synergy, membership engagement and making MSMEs future ready. CII has created a coordination committee to build synergy across states, zones, subcommittees and taskforces to come together, complement each other and in the process scale up initiatives. This year apart from several focus areas which is clearly reflected through formation of several sub-committees and taskforces, the focus will be on making MSMEs future ready and for that we plan to organize lecture series to update them on the latest innovations and technology development. The idea is to give MSMEs necessary exposure to enable them to create the necessary ecosystem. This would include 3D Printing, Robotics, Internet of Things, Manufacturing 4.0 – Impact on Jobs, Managing Social Media, E-commerce and M-commerce.”
