Need Systematic Approach to Job Creation: Shri Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President
Feb 08, 2018

“We need to focus on livelihood creation for rural youth. What is important for India right now is self-respect, self-employment and development,” said Shri Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India. He was speaking at the 2-day Conference on Jobs & Livelihood Creation – Critical Growth Enablers, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with NITI Aayog in New Delhi.

He suggested that large companies should be given a district to adopt and impart training to people. “You cannot stop rural migration until you provide similar facilities in the villages,” he said. He added that education is the most critical growth enabler for empowerment as well as enlightenment. “We have to re-orient policies and programmes to suit India’s growing population’s employment and livelihood needs. We have to give more focus towards specialty training in technical as well as day-to-day household job requirements,” he added.

Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Rural Development, noted, “We are a growing young population and while it is a challenge, it is also an opportunity, and job creation should be the collective responsibility of the Government as well as the Industry.” He stressed that training and technical skills for different products are required. Products created by self-help groups in rural areas should be facilitated to reach newer markets, added the Minister.

“We need to capitalize on India’s growing young population,” said Shri Giriraj Singh, Minister (IC) of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. He emphasized that Industry should don the role of social entrepreneurs and work in the rural areas to provide employment opportunities.

Mr Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog said, “The aspirations of young people do not synchronize with the ground realities. We cannot copy paste models from different countries and NITI Aayog is working on a model which will be unique to India to make sure that the last young person of the country gets the job that he or she aspires to.”

Complimenting the Government for its various reforms related to the start-up ecosystem, Mr. Rakesh Bharti Mittal, President-Designate, CII said that Industry and Government together need to motivate the youth for the challenges in jobs and livelihood creation.

During the conference, CII also exchanged an MoU with Maruti for the opening of model career centres in 50 ITIs.

Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII, informed that CII has adopted 400 ITIs in the country and will continue to work in supporting the Government’s efforts through various initiatives including the CII Model Career Centres.
