State and Central Health Schemes should be merged to provide adequate resources and revenue for welfare of Indian patients, said Sh. Arun Jaitley, Hon’ble Finance Minister of India, as he emphasised the urgent need to focus on Healthcare in the 15th Health Summit of CII.

FM said that “Healthcare is an area that eminently requires a federal institution, with a merger of existing state schemes and central resources. The focus has to be on welfare of people. States would be responsible for implementation with coordination from the centre.” Sh. Jaitley succinctly spoke about the state of healthcare in India. With Ayushman Bharat, hope is being provided to the underserved sections of our population. The challenge ahead is successful implementation. We are moving from an un-pensioned, un-insured economy to one where citizen welfare is a priority.

Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman, CII Healthcare Council, emphasised that the private Healthcare Providers are looking at rationalizing costs to cater to the needs of the Indian population.

Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee, DG, CII, said that signing of the MoU between CII and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health will go a long way in addressing effectively the diverse health challenges faced by India.

Dean of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Dr. Michelle Williams, said that the five emphasis areas for the Indian partnership include people well-being and nutrition, conquering epidemics, overcoming violence and re-imaging ageing.

Smt. Anupriya Singh Patel, Hon’ble Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, informed that 5.5 lakh Ayushman Bharat beneficiary cards have already been issued as the Government successfully rolls out the world’s largest healthcare coverage scheme, Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY).
