Government setting up joint taskforce with industry on implementation of NEP, announces Education Minister at 10th CII Education Summit
Dec 11, 2020

Industry and academia have to work together to realise the vision set forth in the National Education Policy. This is no longer a choice but an imperative, said Union Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank at the Valedictory Session and Awards Ceremony of 10th CII Education Summit held on 11 December virtually. Others present in the session were Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education, Prof Anil Sahasrabudhe; Chairman, CII Education Council, Mr BVR Mohan Reddy and Director General, CII, Mr Chandrajit Banerjee.

The minister announced that the ministry will be setting up a task force with industry to implement the NEP and asked CII to nominate members from its side for the task force. Terming the NEP as the biggest reform which promises to be impactful, inclusive, interactive, innovative and which will run on equity, quality and access, the minister said that India had talent in abundance. What was needed was merging it with new initiatives and thus bridging the gap between the two, he said.

Dr Pokhriyal congratulated CII and AICTE for successfully completing the 9th edition of the AICTE-CII Survey of Industry-Linked Technical Institutes which he lauded as a unique survey from industry perspective. He appreciated CII efforts in the direction of providing certified talent to industry at one place through a new examination called iPATE or Industrial Proficiency Aptitude Test for Engineers. CII iPATE (www.ipate.in)  is a very good initiative and it should grow and expand in the coming years, said Dr Pokhriyal.

CII’s doctoral fellowship scheme, instituted in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology in 2012, called the Prime Minister Fellowship for Doctoral Research (www.primeministerfellowshipscheme.in) also came in for praise from the minister who called it an excellent initiative and exhorted inclusion of social science subjects in the scheme.

CII organised the 10th edition of CII Education Summit on 10-11 December on digital platform. The summit deliberated on key issues in the education sector, policy dialogue, dialogue with other key ministries relevant for education, examples from states and also international case studies.
