Mar 24, 2021

(From Part 1)

Speaking at the session on India’s Digital Revolution Mr Anant Maheshwari Chairman CII National Committee on IT & ITeS and President Microsoft India said, “ We need to find ways to leverage technology innovations not only for businesses but also for societal outcomes. Everyone should be enabled to participate in the digital economy. There are three major components that will assist in the adoption of technology in the services sector which are; access, that will allow every community, business and person to benefit from technology, trust, which should be built into every business model and skilling, which is needed for a digital enablement.”

Building on the discussion Ms Shobana Kamineni Past President, CII; Chairperson CII National Council on Services and Exe. Vice Chairperson Apollo Hospitals Group stated,” Healthcare has become front and centre for every boardroom agenda. World has become open to change. It was due to technology that every ingrained thought was challenged during pandemic. Next phase would be 5G where everything will be done remotely. One of the things that the pandemic has highlighted is that medicine has to be made affordable and inclusive. We need to be there with the patient in the long term and have a new sense of permanence.”

Mr Kris Gopalakrishnan Chairman CII Start-up Council and Co-Founder Infosys Limited and Chairman Axilor Ventures Private Limited said, “ Speed is something that we should make permanent and sustain. There also needs to be appreciation for science. We should think how we can increase capacity to create original IP in India. Trust is also very important and there are 2 key aspects to it; affordable quality of healthcare and education as both will build trust and the safety and robustness of services. Role of government is to provide secure services to its citizens. Businesses will also have to behave themselves so that they deserve the trust by obeying the law of the land and not do profit sharing.

Mr Vijay Thadani , Co-founder & Managing Director, NIIT Ltd, while moderating the session “Digital India Empowering Digital Services.” Technology has been a leveler, and India is 8th largest as the services sector and we have an opportunity to lead from the front.

Mr Yashish Dahiya, CEO, Policy Bazaar expressed that the government has made a phenomenal step with Ayushman Bharat where roughly 40% of the population is covered through the government services. We have to think about the missing middle. The Government has a huge role to play in data protection, making digital champions in India

The level of digital transformation and adoption of digital technology in the last one year was more than the last 5-10 years stated Mr Abhishek Singh, CEO,

My Gov. It was essential to adopt digital tools to ensure business remains at normal. The productivity in all spheres have increased, except for a few core sectors where physical contact is required. Digital can become the new normal and improve the delivery of services, and the investments India has made in technology has paid off. We need to focus on building secure, robust and scalable systems, with a clear focus on cyber security and data privacy issues.

Mr Puneet Chandok, President, India and South Asia Amazon Internet Services Pvt. Ltd. highlighted that the role of technology, and the proposition of technology have never been clearer. We are moving towards an era of virtual business, where we can build products from anywhere in the world. Democratization of technology like this has been seen as never before. Cloud penetration in India is low, but the potential that we have is humongous across enterprises. The next 12-18 months, we need to move with urgency and speed and secure this opportunity.

Speaking at the session on Digitisation of Education Services Ms. Joyeeta Das Lead, Education & Skilling Initiatives, CSR IBM India Private Limited said, “We need to bring  all kinds of platforms for benefit in school so that a generation of problem solvers come up. Project based learning and industry component needs to be built in. Digitisation in education services is not only about devices and software but also about partnerships.”

Ms Suchitra Kolluru Head – Education, Healthcare & Start-ups Dell Technologies said, “Education is a sector which is at a cross-roads with CSR and commercial sectors. Any organisation that is not connected with education has not connected with the future workforce of the nation. Rather than just content consumption what is important is content creation. When learning outcome is focused on, the complete channel is empowered. We need to be focused on learning outcomes. Currently there are many free learning platforms, issue is curating it and making sure that it is mapped with the customers and learners. Learners need to be exposed to industry relevant bootcamps and workshops. We need to look at the teacher’s journey and empower  teachers through partnerships. Skilling for the teachers in technology needs to be made real”
