I would like to bring regional balance in my state in terms of industrialization: Karnataka Chief Minister at CII Annual Meeting

“During the 50s, 60s and 70s, Karnataka laid a strong foundation not only in terms of manufacturing but also in terms of skills, R&D and foreign collaborations,” said Shri Basavaraj S Bommai, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, while speaking at the Plenary Session on Karnataka at India@75 and Going India@100, at the CII Annual Meeting 2021.

Shri Bommai said that Bengaluru has had the honour of having the maximum number of R&D centres, both Government and private ones with names like ISRO, NAL, HAL, BEL etc. leading from the front. There has been growth for all in the state. The local entrepreneurs, workers and all associated with industry have been an integral part of this growth, he added. The Chief Minister expressed his belief that people should be enriched and stressed that the government is working to increase the “entrepreneurial quality in the state.”

In his address, Shri Bommai spoke about bringing a “regional balance” in Karnataka in terms of industrialization by having industry in the far-flung areas of the state. He further shared that his team was working on various clusters and plans were afoot to have the biggest pharma cluster of the country in Northern Karnataka.

Sharing his thoughts on strengthening the entrepreneurial skills of the people of Karnataka, Chief Minister said that the Government is working on initiatives to enhance capacities in that space. He further expressed that a new industrial policy was being firmed up, and that it was inspired by the pro-industrial outlook of his predecessor.

Earlier, welcoming Shri Bommai, Mr Vikram Kirloskar, Past President, CII and Chairman and Managing Director, Kirloskar Systems congratulated him on assuming office and opined that Karnataka had shown leadership among Indian states both in manufacturing and services. Thanking the Chief Minister, Mr Kirloskar lauded his keen interest in Industry and also elaborated on how CII’s initiatives towards catalysing industrial growth along with the growth and development of the society as a whole.
