IGBC Felicitates Green Champions

CII’s Indian Green Building Council hosted the 19th edition of ‘Green Building Congress’ on 18, 19 & 20 November 2021. The 3-day conference was held virtually on CII HIVE platform. The theme for Green Building Congress 2021 is ‘Net Zero – Buildings & Built Environment’. More than 80 eminent speakers converged at the event, covering a wide array of subjects in green built environment.

To facilitate fully certified green building projects to continue maintaining the facility as green, IGBC has launched the 'Performance Challenge for Green Built Environment' programme. During the Green Building Congress 2021, IGBC recognised and felicitated fifteen organisations who have demonstrated leadership in Building Performance. In their respective sectors. These include, Infosys Limited, STT GDC India, Netmagic Solutions, Zahoransky & Machines Pvt Ltd, Mahindra Technical Academy, Vaibhav Global Ltd, Apollo Hospitals, Greater Noida Medical university, Indian Railways, ITC Limited, Capgemini Technology Services India Limited, Beary’s Group, Transit Electronics Limited, Shapath V and LBRD Warehouse.

All the projects awarded during the performance challenge are rated as Green Buildings by CII-IGBC and have shown sustained energy savings to the tune of 30-40% and water savings to the tune of 25-35% over a period of time.

Mr Abhay Bakre, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India was the chief guest for the awards session. Sharing his views during the conference Mr Abhay Bakre said “Building footprint of India is set to witness a multi-fold jump in the coming years and it is important that we ensure that all the newer footprint is developed in a sustainable manner right from the design. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency recognises that the building sector will be the largest energy consumer in the country in the coming years and has plans to implement large scale energy efficiency programmes to catering the building sector. With India’s commitment at COP our targets are clear now and the next decade will the ‘decade of action’ for the bureau.

CII & IGBC have always been at the forefront of addressing the national priorities and we would congratulate CII-IGBC for their excellent efforts in advancing the green building movement in the country and would urge them to continue their efforts and work with each and every stakeholder in the building sector to usher in the Net Zero Movement”.  

Speaking about the Performance Challenge awards, Mr Shrikant Bapat, Country GM & MD, Johnson Controls (I) Pvt Ltd said “Sustained performance of a building is vital when you look at the overall impact of a building., Digitalisation helps buildings in monitoring the performance of a building and it enables in taking necessary corrective measures. I would say that Sustainability and digitalisation goes hand in hand. The Performance award winners have shown us that Green Buildings provide sustained energy and water savings over a period of time and I would urge the stakeholders to look at digital solutions for sustained building performance.”

During the ‘IGBC LEADERSHIP AWARDS’ IGBC also recognised projects, organisations and individuals who have contributed immensely to the Green Building Movement and felicitated them with ‘IGBC Green Champions Awards’. The IGBC Green Champions awards were presented to Space Matrix, Essteam Design services LLP, Vilas Javdekar Developers, Signature Global Group, Tata Power Company Ltd, Nexus Malls, Urban Development Department, housing & Urban planning Department Govt of Uttar Pradesh, Northern Railway Zone Indian Railways, Capgemini Technology Services India Limited, Godrej Properties Ltd, Max Healthcare Institute Ltd, ICICI Bank Ltd, Raychem RPG Ltd, Indospace, STT GDC India Pvt Ltd, Kewaunee Labway India Pvt Ltd,

Sharing his views on the occasion, Mr V Suresh, Chairman IGBC, said “The Green Building Movement in India is growing from strength to strength. Given the global focus on Climate change and India’s commitment at COP 26, the theme of the Green Buildings Congress 2021 was aptly selected to address Net Zero buildings & built environment and I am glad to share that the Green Building Congress has received tremendous response with over 7,500 delegates registering and attending the virtual conference. Going forward IGBC will closely with all the stakeholders to advance net zero Movement in the country and contribute immensely to the national priorities.

The Green Building Congress 2021 also saw an MoU signed between IGBC and the Council of Architecture (COA) with the areas of cooperation on Academics, Capacity Building, Policy advocacy & Research.

The 30 days of Green Building Congress Expo would showcase more than 300 green products on display, showcasing the best and latest green trends and technologies. The expo is offering the delegates an opportunity to visit the stalls virtually, learn about the products, and interact with the product manufacturers and service providers.

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) was established by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 2001, with a vision ‘to enable sustainable built environment for all’.  CII has been facilitating wider adoption of green building concepts by working closely with stakeholders in advancing the green building movement in the country. With a Green Building footprint of 7.97 billion sq. ft, and with over 7,002 projects adopting CII-IGBC’s 30 rating systems, the Green Building movement in India has been advancing at a rapid pace and transforming India, into one of the global leaders in green built environment.
