EMPLOYMENT UNDER PMEGP BREAKS ALL PREVIOUS RECORDS IN FY22: MINISTER MSME

Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) has facilitated setting up of 1.03 lakh new manufacturing and services units in FY22, crossing 1 lakh mark for the first time in last 14 years and creating a record high 8.25 lakh jobs. Shri Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, Minister of State for MSME said this today while inaugurating the 19th edition of Global MSME Business Summit. The summit was organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

Adding further, the Minister said that more than INR 5 lakh crores have been announced for supporting MSMEs under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) launched in 2020 as part of Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan. Government has now extended the scheme till March 2023 to continue supporting MSMEs in their business operations.

Dr K Nandakumar,Co-Chairman, CII National MSME Council, while acknowledging Government’s support for making MSMEs stronger and more productive, said that the sector was able to bounce back after the pandemic and is now better prepared to play its role in transforming India as one of the industrially advanced economies. 

Mr Shreekant Somany, Chairman, CII National MSME Council, while setting the context for the summit themed on ‘India@100 with Future Ready MSMEs” stated that CII in partnership with Mastercard has been working on an ambitious project of Digital Saksham that endeavors to upskill and make MSMEs globally competitive through digitalization. The project with an overall outreach target of 3 lakhs micro and small businesses, aims at training 75 thousand at cluster level and further helping 50 thousand to adopt digital tools over a period of 3 years. So far, it has reached out to 67,279 enterprises, conducted training for over 24,036 enterprises and helped over 23,596 micro enterprises adopt digital tools.

Building on this, MSMEs have also added the priority areas of integration into Global Value Chains, technology and employability, services trade, and African Common Market to the forthcoming G20 structural agenda.

Mr Ashok Saigal, Co-Chairman, CII National MSME Council said that it is an opportune time for MSMEs in India to enhance their competitiveness and become an integral part of the global value chains.
