CII Uttarakhand Disaster Relief & Rehabilitation Initiative, being carried out under the aegis of CII Foundation is progressing well.
CII team conducted an on ground survey from 29 June - 3 July 2013 in district Rudraprayag. Post assessment CII distributed tents, water purifiers, solar lanterns with mobile charging facility, cots, mattresses, quilts, blankets, hygiene items, shoes, mats & torches etc to the most needy. CII reached out to 752 families from 118 villages in districts of Rudraprayag & Chamoli, through 14 distribution drives.
In consultation with the State Government, CII had identified 3 key areas of interventions as part of its rehabilitation work. Following is a brief update on each one of them:
1. Rebuilding Schools in District Tehri Garhwal: CII is committed to re - constructing 8 completely damaged primary / upper primary schools in district Tehri Garhwal along with furnishing and teaching aids. Softer interventions aimed at enhancing the learning experience for children and capacity building of teachers will also been taken up. Construction in 4 schools has already started – 2 in block Devprayag and 2 in block Jaunpur. Another 4 have been identified in block Bhilangana.
2. Skill Development & livelihood Interventions: CII has undertaken multiple interventions under this vertical.
o CII has been organizing recruitment drives for trainees / placements for youth from ITI, degree colleges and school dropouts from the disaster impacted areas with Industry. Till date CII has organized 10 such drives resulting in training and placement offers to 107 youth.
o CII propose to skill another 50 youth in industry certified courses – 2 wheeler auto technicians and electricians. A pilot batch of 8 students is already under training in 2 wheeler auto technician.
o CII is also in the process of identifying community based livelihoods projects centered around handlooms in the Kedar Valley and fruit tree and herbal plantations in district Bageshwar.
3. IT Centre-cum-CAD lab at ITI, Srinagar: The 25 seat modern IT Centre-cum-CAD Lab has already been established at the existing premises. The required list of equipment, software and furniture has been provided and the students have already started using the facilities.
